Camshaft - a cylindrical rod with concentric, yet oblong, lobes arranged along the shaft. Alex, what is a physiological deficiency or behavior which has a psychological origination or explanation? Layman's definition might be "the problem is all in your mind". I.E. a facial tic that was developed in a child due to a parent yelling at them, which manifests during normal conversation when a person is perceiving that they are being attacked.

Not sure on that one, I've heard the word before but am not sure on the definition...so on the off chance I got close enough, the new word would be "grandiloquent".

And now to the challenge at hand: "grandiloquent". I believe it means overblown verbiage. Word choice that exceeds the needs of a given situation. This happens most often amongst young authors who have recently come across new vocabulary with which to dazzle and/or astound their readers. Early works by James Joyce manifest, in my opinion, this tendency.

When referring to geometric shapes, a tangent refers to a straight line which intersects an arc or circle at only one point. A tangent line will also be perpendicular to the line which intersects the center point of the arc or circle.

In social venues, conversation topics may also be tangential when the primary topic of conversation shares an element of commonality with the new topic, but is a different topic altogether. I.E. in a discussion about the different founding father's signatures on the Declaration of Independence, it may be brought up that the document wasn't made public till the 8th of July, even though it was signed on the 4th. The date the document was released publicly is tangentially related to the nature of the signatures, in that they are both related to the same document, but are not the same topic.
