Why wont Chevy bring back the Chevelle

Let me first start out by saying I love my Camaro. Wouldnt it be awesome if Chevy would bring back the Chevelle with a retro styling like Dodge did with the Challenger? I know it would never happen but wouldnt that be cool?

I would like to see it. I don't see how more muscle cars could be a bad thing.

I hope they dont, because if it turned out as good as the camaro... I would be forced to sell it and by a new chevelle! 454 LS engine

Due to CAFE, too many muscle cars IS a bad thing. If the current talk in the BHO administration comes true, the CAFE standard for 2036 will be 56 MPG!!!!!! Which will even put the Camaro at risk.

Just so they dont bring it back like the Charger (4 Door or front wheel drive, Yuck). Basically a larger version of the camaro but with a retro 1970 design with a big block in it!

What you need... is a two car garage!

That is a valid point. Hopefully the manufacturers are working on technologies that will improve economy across the classes of vehicles as well as continuing to push current technologies that get improved mileage (Volt, for example) so that we can have a few cars that are good for more "spirited" driving.

Or moonlight so I could have both! Only problem then would be trying to decide which one to take for a spin....

I would love to see chevelle come back and do the mid-size right - make a 4 door with back doors that open like the RX8, no exterior handles. Then Charger would have competition. I still can't believe they put the wing and hoodscoop on a truck (GAYtona) and 4 doors on the Charger. What Gomer thought that would be cool?

Closest thing you'll ever get is a rebadged Commodore. Which you'll have to wait for.

The reason they don't bring it back is the same reason they made the Charger a 4 door "I wanted a muscle car, but my wife wouldn't let me, so I had to get this."

The economy will not support a single car company releasing multiple types of the same type of car, the car companies do not see it as a winning financial proposition in the USA. Even Volkswagen has declined to sell the much better looking Scirocco alongside their Golf because they are both hot hatchbacks and one would poach sales from the other.

Now this might seem as silly as me opening a lemonade stand and refusing to sell fruit punch because it would steal sales from my lemonade. After all, the money is still going into my pocket, either way. The problem is: if my customer base is my street, and there are only so many people in my street, and I want to ensure that I get the most profit, then I have to halve my supply for both the lemonade and the fruit punch. If I don't, then I'm left with extra supplies for which I've paid after everyone's had their fill.

So what? Well say you have 40k Camaro customers now. Now say you decide to produce the Camaro and the Chevelle and to try to keep the profits even, you halve the production of Camaros to 20k and make 20k Chevelles. If, of those 40k Camaro customers 17k go to Chevelle, you have 3k Camaro customers left in the lurch because too few have been produced. They may buy a Chevelle, but they may also buy a Mustang or Challenger. You also have 3k Chevelles collecting dust, and that's wasted money that will have to be price reduced at some point.

50 years ago, this wasn't a huge deal. A car company would have several of the same vehicle with different bodies and interiors without worrying because the market was good and people were buying.

The only place a Chevelle would have is on a platform like the Charger. Mid size rear drive 4-door. I believe the Chevelle name is dead for good, GM would also probably opt for the Monte Carlo name plate first.

Never say never, I seen this prototype drawing for a new Chevelle. Looks like someone is thinking about it for sure.
