So the all new M5 beats the CTS-V by less than 4 seconds. Guess we'll have to go back over and make the point again

It's the Ring, realistically there never is any proof. It's an 'honor system' competition, which means you're faster than the next manufacturer until he decides to say he went even faster than you did....whether he actually did or not.

If it is true, the impressive thing is that it beats the existing M5 by 18 seconds! That's a lifetime on the ring! Wow!

Well, the new M5 is a totally different car... in case you didn't notice, they didn't make one last year.... all getting ready for the next generation. I've driven an '08 M5.... total beast... and yet it doesn't feel that fast. 3-8K rpms is barely noticeable in 6th gear on the highway.... too easy to go insanely fast and never know it.... not that I'd know

On smaller tracks 4 seconds is big deal, on the Ring not so much IMHO. It is quite a long track. So the CTS-V is still quite a relevant car.

Besides Ring times are the ultimate in magazine racer bragging rights.

The vast majority of people will never run their car on the ring. Even if you are lucky enough to live in Europe and run out to the ring on a public day, I garauntee that the vast majority of those people won't even run a sub 9:00 minute lap time in their CTS-V or M5 or whatever.

But it looks like the M5 has the production sedan title for now...
