Ladybugsmom, this one is inscrutable. I'm gonna' have to cry, "Craven!". This is not a plea for mercy, it is a recognition of defeat. In a final twitch of deathbed mental effort, may I ask whether it is from one of the latter day self-help gurus, like Phil Donohue? (sp.)?

Now take a guess at the quote I posted!

FutureMDPilot, you're on the right track.... one more hint - one of his bestsellers was made into a movie...
Somewhat of a shot in the dark but is the movie Jonathan Livingston Seagull (named after the book) and the book The Messiah's Handbook (or something similar to this)? If so, then Richard Bach is your answer .

Interesting fact about him (and me ). He had (and still has) a fascination with aviation that began as a hobby when he was seventeen and eventually led to a career in the Air Force. On the other hand, I'm getting my PPL when I'm seventeen on July 1st, but it's staying as a hobby to go along with Cardiac Surgery .

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
It is Richard Bach, from The Messiah's Handbook (I think it was also in Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, but I can't find my copy of the book to confirm that)
Happy early Birthday, BTW.... Your turn!

Thank you!

I'm correct? I feel so accomplished now .

This is one from an author of another book I recently completed (and is from that book).

"Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them."

Might we plebeians be granted a small boon? What type of book was this recently read tome? Non-fiction, dramatic novel, dialectic essay, theoretical analysis, science-fiction, philosophic musings, theatre, polemic diatribe, classical translation, bathroom scrawl?

You do not recall "Doublethink"? I was hoping that would give it away.

It's a Dystopian novel.

Dystopian, I get. Hmm, could it be from that author of the dystopian novel, "The Windup Girl", Paolo Bacigalupi? I read it last month myself.

I'll add this quote as a hint.

"Big Brother is watching you".

I've never heard of "The Windup Girl". Am currently reading "Atlas Shrugged"whenever I can find spare time.

Ahh, George Orwell. I liked his "Hommage to Catalonia" best. It says a lot about the deleterious effects of Stalinism in a revolution on the verge of success.

"Oakland, there's no there there."

It's clear that y'all don't recall good ol' Gertrude Stein of Alice B. Toklas fame.
So, here goes a replacement quote that should get a more fulsome hearing.

"Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"

Mae West

"The older I get, the greater power I seem to have to help the world; I am like a snowball -- the further I am rolled the more I gain."

Wow, this is just a "bolt from the blue". Could this be from Warren Buffet?
