Turbo exhaust system repairs in the Phoenix Area
My turbocharged 2001 Silverado was hit in the rear today. Need to find a shop the can do exhaust system repairs on my STS rear mount turbo system. The impact shoved the tailpipe down and the pipe is crumpled right were it is welded to the V-band flange at the turbo exit.
Anyone know of a good shop that can deal with exhaust repair involving turbos?

If it didn't damage the turbo, it should be doable at any decent exhaust shop. Do you have pics?

Maybe a diesel exhaust shop? They be familiar with the sizes and parts, if they work on gasoline vehicles?

If you're worried about wastegates being damaged and whatnot, I would take it to a reputable performance shop rather than an exhaust/lube place. Where in AZ are you located? No need to give specifics, but a general area.

Thank you. I live in N.W. Peoria near 83rd Ave & Happy Valley Rd, but I work in S. Tempe, so I'm all over the Valley.
I'm willing to travel to get a good shop that is comfortable working on a custom system with no off the shelve bolt-on parts. Someone that understands turbo systems that also has exhaust repair capabilities, fabrication and welding skills should work. The downpipe that the turbo sits on is going to have to be unwrapped of its thermal wrap, heated and bent back to square, then rewrapped and repainted with DEI hi-temp silicone paint. The tailpipe off the turbo has a 3" to 5" megaphone transistion that is 18" long. It's all crushed and wrinkled up right at the turbo where its welded onto a V-band flange. After this is all repaired, it will need to be repainted with an aluminum heat transfer paint or coating. Wastegate is ok, but the dump pipe flange had one of its bolts snapped off. This should be fixed with a new nut & bolt anyway. Then there are several exhaust hangers that have to be straightened out to get the tailpipe back to its place where it exits a cutout in my rollpan.

http://www.ststurbo.com/dealer_list
I would start by giving a call to the shops there. Some are just parts dealers, but there are a few performance shops that likely have a lot of experience with Squires systems and will have extra parts on hand. |

Who did the original work and why can't you take it back to them?

Besides, GIECO only wants me to deal with their own approved collision shops, mostly new car dealers. They scheduled me to see Bill Luke Chysler Dealership two weeks from now soonest they can get me in front of their adjuster. I know that the dealership is going to pass on fixing this, so maybe I can wrangle a check out of GIECO and find a turbo shop with fab skills? For all the hype of Phoenix being the 5th largest city in the nation, and being in Maricopa County with a population of around 4 million, we are practically devoid of speed shops the likes of what are common in California, Texas and Florida to name a few. Have you asked around in the Arizona regional forum?
