Agreed.

When a mom on welfare can't pay $5 for her son to see a doctor but is able to afford the calling plan for her brand new cell phone as well as make payments on her brand new Escalade, you know there's a problem.

I AGREE 100% on this.

If we all agree, why the heck don't they start doing it? The money saved would pay for all of the drug test.

I disagree... there should be fewer laws, not more.
They should do away with welfare and let the Church's take over... it's shouldn't be the government's responsibility.

I almost agreed and then I thought of my Mom. She wants to work. Shes worked on and off for the last several years. She looks for work everywhere. But she works in the auto industry and now she's laid off again. :(

She's not on welfare, but I worry about things around this state. It's not good.

There are always exceptions to every rule...Widows, elderly, children, disabled deserve a break. Lots of folks that want to work are in a bind right now also, thing is to find the deadbeats and get them out of the system.

There is too much common sense and logic in your idea! No politician or other government official would ever sign off on it.

http://www.ohsinc.com/DRUG_TESTING_C...TEST_COST2.htm

States that the average urine test is $44 and can detect most drugs only 1-4 days after use with the exception of pot and sometimes pcp. While a hair test is about $115-150 But is effective for up to 90 days. So if we could find out the average monthly welfare compensation received multiply it by 2 or 3 and subtract $135 we'd see how much savings we'd get. Since you only have to do a hair test every 2 or 3 months I think it would be the best choice for these purposes. Also they would only be able to take one test every 2-3 months since that's how long it would take them to be able to pass it and if you fail more than a certain number of times (3....4?) you are ineligible for certain period. Like 1 yr, 2yrs, 5 yrs. I think that will either force people to stop doing the drugs or to stop applying for welfare. If it saves money and lives, I think it's a good idea.

+1, If they take away the incentives for having kids they might be able to break this cycle. I would propose reducing the size of welfare checks as recipients have more children. I know I'll get flamed for this by some but imagine being raised in this environment, drug addicts don't make good parents, but its not the kids fault and many will end up with the same problems because of this piss poor childhood. In fact if I were in charge, I would increase welfare checks $100.00 a month yearly for each year a recipient didn't get pregnant and reduce $200.00 a month if they did. IMO we'd have welfare under control within a generation. And we need to bring manufacturing jobs back to this country. Government jobs do not contribute to GDP and thats about the only sector of our economy that has been growing for the past several decades. When people come off welfare they need jobs. Nobody should have to work three Walmart type jobs to make a living and still not have healthcare. IMO welfare is a consequence of human greed at all levels of society, not just the impoverished. No offense but its easy to point fingers if you haven't spent some time in anothers shoes, solutions tend to be more difficult.

Lets take it a step further and say that if you are on well fare and you have more children; no wait, sex because treating there STDs costs us money too along with there worthless children then they should be expelled from the USA along with all familys that have retards because our taxes are paying for that small percent of people to be accommodated. And lets face it they have bad genetics.
