Reasons you should Never Street Race

This thread is not to promote street racing but reasons you should never try to street race.

Quote:
Officers don't take street racing lightly, especially when the alleged 'racer' challenges an undercover policeman.

That was the case in Johnson City on Saturday night when the Johnson City Police Department reports a man attempted to 'drag race' an unmarked police car.

Gaylor R. Milhorn, 44, of Kingsport was arrested and charged with DUI (second offense), reckless driving and felony reckless endangerment for the alleged incident.

Milhorn is being held without bond in the Washington County Detention Center and will appear tomorrow afternoon in general sessions court.

That and the fact that many jurisdictions will now confiscate and crush/sell your car!

Prison sucks...kill somebody street racing and you are facing a murder charge.

Oh...it is a really stupid idea.

+1

Back when I took driver's ed in high school they showed us an episode of Opra (let me finish my story before you start judging) in which she brought this 19 year old girl (completely disfigured and scarred from the car crash) and the 20 something kid who was racing (he was 17 when he did it). He got a life sentence from the jury. 17 years old, and he gets told that he'll be spending the rest of his life in jail (more than likely being somebody's love toy).

Don't street race. There are tracks in almost every city in the country, or at worst a track that is under an hour away. There is no excuse for street racing. Don't be the punk kid that everybody knows as "Bubba's punk kid"

Well Johnson City has all sorts of unmarked cars, even Mustangs. Kind of easy to spot, all have blue lights in the front grill and rear window, and of course the dash mounted camera. The mustangs i have see all have a front tag with police written backwards on them. I guess drinking not only impairs your decision making, but your sight too.

Here in Oregon all of the "street race" bait cars are Chargers and Mustangs. Most have aftermarket rims, exhausts and headers to create the "performance" sound. I know for a fact that the OSP has a trio of 440+ WHP Chargers that they have that work I-5 between Medford and Roseburg (a black one), between Eugene and Salem (a white one) and in the Tigard/Beaverton/Portland area (a red one). Also in the Portland area are 2005-2010 Mustangs that have no front or rear markings, but have very subtle side "Police" ID's that are usually parked on the side of the road with a LIDAR/RADAR gun pointed at you. There are also are least two 2010/11 Mustangs that have been prepped as persuit cars that are scary fast.

If the street racer challenged an unmarked, I would say it is a very safe bet that it was an unmarked "performance" car like a Charger, Mustang, Camaro or Challenger.

I wonder if it is worth it. I mean all the money to setup these bait vehicles. I am in the DFW area and rarely get baited. I think since I have had this car I have had 2 cars try to bait me. I would definitely agree if it is a widespread problem. It's just rare where I live to see people racing. I see more of the crotch rockets doing stunts at 80mph than street racing.

they've got chargers like that in the woodlands, tx area too, with rims, everything blacked out (taillights are LED with black plastic housings) and mild body kits. im pretty good at picking out cop cars even if they are stealthy like that, but i really wasn't sure until i passed him and saw that it said Constable in black reflective vinyl on the side.

they are getting sneaky, BUT, at the same time, some of these "unmarked" cars have huge noticeable lights on the license plate bracket or in the grille, etc. so they kind of ruin the point of having an unmarked car.

I'm going to have to go find one of them bait cars...LOL I've seen Volvo's in WA state that surprised me was an unmarked... They are getting tricky no doubt but if the officer instigates the race isn't that entrapment or something like that?
I had a cop fail to get out of the passing lane so I passed him on the right and he of course pulled me over and asked if I was a wise guy. I asked him if he wanted to be written up for failure to yield... That was that no ticket.

its not entrapment, they arent forcing you to race. if they were up your ass forcing you to speed up and pulled you over for speeding, that would be entrapment.

If the officer actively works to provoke a race, IE forcing you to speed by trapping you in a lane and tail gating, then it could be considered entrapment. However, most of the time when I have seen the bait cars they are cruising just under the "buffer zone" speed limit, so around 65 MPH. They'll slow down to under 55 and then rev up to 65 or so, all completely legal. Then when someone comes up along side, revs and takes off to over 75-80 they pop them.

Essentially they provoke a race by having a loud, fast looking and genuinely fast car, and then wait for people to be stupid. Works like a charm.
