The creator of this quote had a 'religion' characterized by his virtuous life and it happened to be that it was also named after him, Confucius, but not contrived by him.

I'll start with an easy one.

"You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get people to stop reading them."
The more the merrier! Welcome!

Ray Bradbury.

"All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become"

Hmm, that sounds like a philosopher of the extreme idealist school like Bishop Berkeley, or perhaps that self-help "teacher" of the 1920's who advised folks to say to themselves, "Everyday, in every way, I am getting better and better". His name escapes me at the moment... Hey, maybe it's that positive thinking promoter of the 1950's and 60's who said,"Right thinking can overcome the greatest problems." He claimed to have cured his own cancer in this way. I'll have to think on it to come up with his name. Am I on the right track?

Okay, the religious thinker par excellence of the idealist school would be Saint Augustine of Hippo. A few centuries later, Saint Thomas Aquinas fell into the same approach in attempting a reconciliation of man's consciousness with the seeming randomness of the Universe.

Am I gettin' closer?

Since the last quote comes from Confucius, I'd have to say that this relates to Buddhism and therefore Siddhartha Gautama (better known as Buddha) states this.

"My cockiness is you falling short of confidence" (if I'm correct)

He is a bodybuilder whose initials, excluding middle name, are N.W.

It's a fairly well known quote despite being from somebody you would not expect, which surprises me.

Hmm, let's see. Could the quote be one coined by Future MDPilot himself?

The way that it's phrased here - Shaquille O'Neill. But he was paraphrasing Aristotle: "Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."

One of my favorite quotes:
"Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something"

It sounds like something Mark Twain would say, yet the wording doesn't seem to be his style...
