You know my age, so no sarcasm, by way of feigned ignorance, is intended. Doesn't NCR make cash registers and adding machines?

Do you have a college degree? If so you should have no problem. I went to a trade school many years ago that is no longer in business. Nobody recognizes their diplomas now. Without a college degree it is very hard to find anyone even willing to talk to you. At least it's like that around here. Monster jobs is a joke. 2 years and2 months jobless. Many applications and no face to face interviews. Seems like 32 years experience means nothing to anyone.

Just pissed at this economy and what I have experienced, I know others have found work and I am happy for them. Guess I am very discouraged. Good luck in your job search.

It seems to me that college degrees don't mean much anymore either. I would much rather hire someone with 32 years experience in a field than a greenhorn with a degree. I think knowing a trade is where it's at these days but the problem is nobody wants to work anymore. They just want to sit behind a desk and make lots of money. College degrees aren't everything.

Like I said I was 18 when I started in LP. You can find floor walker spots part time and usually they pay pretty decent.

Well not around here the unemployment rate here for college grads is about 4% but non college grads is 8.5%. plus my age has alot to do with things, seems like most companies want to get some greenhorn straight out of college so they don't have to pay alot or give any benefits (thats what my old company does, Laid me and 4 others off and kept some young guys that had been there less than 6 months). Much also depends on the Degree you have when graduating. Liberal arts you might as well not have even gone to college, but engineering or any medical field and there are jobs everywhere. I was in engineering but have no degree, came up through Maintenance to get to Engineering. Every Job opening I have seen for engineering or even drafting requires a degree now... but I apply anyway. usually get the old "We are persuing other applicants" letter..

Brother, I hella feel for ya'. This ain't any "I told you so"; it's just a cautionary bit of advice that has served me well all of my life (I've been workin' and payin' taxes since 1972).
When you are organized with your co-workers in a democratically controlled union your life IS better.
I'm a member of the NEA, the teachers' union, since 1985. I am active in it. Right now I am in opposition to the currently less than militant leadership of our local, who is hesitant to take definitive action (strike). I am confident that my fellow firebrands' more assertive positions will win over the membership soon.
Our union is founded on the principles of internal democracy. All of your unions can be likewise based, if ya' push the issue hard enough.

Good luck, everyone!

Just to update your knowledge, basically the only thing NCR makes is atms. We mostly service IBM, Cisco, Verizon, AT&T and other oddball stuff. . In 1991 AT&T bought NCR. While owned by AT&T we were known as the Network Computing Resource of AT&T. They spit us out a few years later.

it may work where you live but the laws in Tennessee don"t give Unions much leverage. so 90% of companys here are not unionized.
