You got that right the Padres right now are a Triple A team. Yesterday they brought up a kid named Rizzo. He is suspossed to be really good and hits a lot of home runs with a decent batting average in the minors. The Padres need all the help they can get.

Need serious advice....
I need all the wisdom you old farts have to offer...
How would you handle this? Last night, my hubby was talking to his son on the phone and discovered that his son was at home alone (he's 12), while mom was out drinking. She was supposed to take him to his math tutor at 6pm, and when she didn't come home to pick him up, he started calling around to find her. After about half an hour, he found out she was at a bar. Her SO was NOT happy about it, so he left to go track her down, leaving my stepson at home alone. At 9pm (his bedtime) she still wasn't home... I told my hubby to go pick him up, but my stepson said no, he was just going to bed anyway. In my opinion, even though 12 is old enough to be at home alone, the lack of planning - you know, this is where I am, when I'll be home, call so-and-so if you need anything - made the situation wrong. Not to mention, a mom blowing off her own kid to go drinking! ![]() ![]() Compounding the situation, she's done it before - forgot to pick him up from our house when she was out drinking... And we wonder why he does things like get caught bringing a knife to school??? I suggested to my hubby that he have his lawyer send a letter - kind of a shot across the bow - letting her know that if she does it again, we'll be filing for full custody (currently, it's exactly 50/50). My hubby thinks that he should leave that decision up to his son; that at 12 years old, he's old enough to choose where he wants to live. Any input??? Ruby, your advice would be appreciated here - I bet you have some professional insight.

A 12 year old knows what he wants, but does he know what he needs?

Fortunately, I've never personally had to deal with a situation like this - but here is my two cents - like MC said, a 12 yr old knows what he wants but does he know what he needs? Alcohol addiction is tough to deal with. A letter from a lawyer is probably not a strong enough shot across the bow. I think you need to go ahead and start the procedure to remove the boy from that home. His worries in life need to be more like how he is going to pass his next science test, why girls smell good, how to hit a home run, etc. He shouldn't be worrying about mom. The judge might deny your petition, but the next time it happens the judge won't deny it. It might seem cruel to the boy to yank him out of his home but it is best for him in the long run. Just my opinion. I didn't get all these ugly wrinkles on my face from playing tennis at the country club - they came from getting a working man's PhD. I need to rest now.

![]() As far as your relationship with him, don't try to be his mom, he already has one, be that "cool old lady my dad married", (sorry, thinking like a 12 yr old). Trick him into talking to you, don't tell him anything, but ask him everything. If he does confide in you, consider it secret, even to his dad, that's how young boys roll

Hey, I'm here.... Not napping, just been out at the pool...now I'm a bit sunburned...oops...
I did get a treat last night... I went to the car gathering at Cabelas, and got to meet Deb in person.. There were around eight or so 5th Gens, and I was on my Harley due to my car still being in the shop.... all in all, a great night and all the better for having met Deb... Deb, it was a real pleasure..

Why for is your car still in the shop? I thought all the technical stuff was taken care of by now. When do you have to go back for another round of bliss on one of those oil rigs?
