GM and Ford both down on poor fleet sales, but on a day when the DOW loses 280, both automakers stocks went up.

On a side note, the Camaro continues its monthly sales lead over the Mustang. 9,400 Camaros were sold in May and Ford only sold 6,600 Mustangs. Both Mustang and Challenger had a sales decrease compared to May 2010.

Two very surprising highlights...
Chevrolet Malibu was the best-selling midsize sedan in America for May 2011. Chevrolet Cruze was the best-selling compact car in America for May 2011. And... Toyota and Honda were both shut out of the list of top 10 best selling cars in America for May 2011.

Well the idea would be to win every month. All I can say is, watch out for Hyundai/Kia.

But you need every part to build a car, so if there is anything for the Camry thats only made in Japan, it doesn't really matter where the assembly plant is. They all depend on the widgets that factory makes and if its been knocked out, or just running at half capacity to save electricity, global production of anything that uses it has no choice but to slow down.

and we somehow have managed to keep going. Everyone seems to miss that point. And you are right, it only takes ONE widget to shut a plant down and we've avoided that. You saw, I think, only one GM plant with down time, Shreveport. And it was back up pretty quickly. I think it's safe to say, every plant in NA has a widget built in Japan that goes on the car or truck.Biggest problem in Japan we don't have here is the power to run the plants. They are running off hours and weekends but not able to run full production simply to keep the plants powered up. Some plants are only able to run a few hours a day just so they aren't using all the power available. That is why I listed those high volume Japanese cars. They are all built here. And yet the volumes are still down. More too it than that, but that is a macro view.

Also important to note that Hyundai/Kia came within a thousand units of Toyota.
Toyota and Honda are both becoming more and more irrelevant by the second. Hyundai/Kia is now Detroit's main competitor.
