You would probably would have to find a donor truck if you wanted to do this cheap. Apparently even simple crate engines like the ZZ4 are costing around 6k these days.

The sbc 350 that came w/ the 79 z28 put out an earth shattering 180bhp....LOL My wifes 03 Impalla has the 3.8 v6 .. its rated at 220 bhp I think... new vs old there is no comparision at all.... the newer is far superior

yea i know its superior and thats part of my reasoning for this
TOMS1SS: that is the plan. find maybe a wrecked truck and pull engine, mounts, all the wiring, and whatever else is needed.

Yes, newer is superior. I don't know if many of you remember the 70's or even 80's. They were all trying to do their best to be emission compliant and things weren't so good performance wise. They even put a 305 in the corvette in 1980 rather than certifying the 350 for CA.
Anyways, they struggled through those years picking up where they could. The LS series is really a great motor. A couple months ago HotRod put out a buttload of power on the 5.3 with an eBay turbo. It was done on the cheap, but it was a pretty cool read.
I still like my bored/stroked aluminum headed 454 with the dual Holleys.

I plan on doing this In 91 suburban 2500. I don't know to just stroke and rebuild the 350 thats In it or just find a donor 6.0. My truck came with a 4l80e but im pretty sure the out of the newer trucks are different.

fullsizechevy.com forums is all you need. They have plenty of threads and people that have done the swap. Im not mechanically inclined so I'm just going to find a shop to do mines.
