first off, happy birthday.
second... is it a tapping, a ticking, a knocking? does it go away when the motor warms up? your rockers could just need to be tightened down, or you could have a clogged pushrod not allowing oil to pass thru, or you may have a lifter going out. hard to say.

Yes dude i was told that by my friend when i called him, The there is somthing wrong with the oil it doesn't get through right when i turn it on and it does a tapping and even faster when i rev it, but when the engine is warm is slowly goes away it only does this when the engine is cool 1st thing in the morning kind of cool, this doesn't go away for at least 5 minutes into driving it and its pissing me off My buddy said to get some thicker oil becuase the 10w-30 is not thick enough and is discharges faster out of the block in other words it settles down to easy, soi got some 20w-50 oil like he said and it helped a little bit but thats just covering the problem, the local deal will take an arm and a leg, ok maybe just an arm, to fix it up. Any good ideas?

can you locate whether it is ticking thru all your rockers or just on one side or just one in general? you might have to readjust the rockers as well as running some detergent (such as seafoam) thru the motor to break up some of the grime that is potentially clogging your pushrods. at the very worst, you have a lifter that is on its way out the door, but the fact that the sound is diminishing once the motor is warm leads me to believe that isnt the problem (yet). my truck does the same thing in the mornings or at night when its cold out. and basically, ive had to factor in an additional 5-10 minutes before I go anywhere to fire up the truck and let it warm up before driving it.

Yes i have a 3.8 and here right now it is 76F and this problem started last week so it wasn't cold at all I am using the recommended 10w-30 but an 2 hours ago i changed it to 20w-50. I will take it to shop since i have it for 3 hours hopefully i can get some stuff done. The ticking is just on the drivers side I don't know if its just 1 or more, but the noise is their, i have work in an hour don't know if i should take it considering there is a possability one is on its way out the door.
For some reason i don't trust seafoam, Just the thought of running somthing else in the crankcase that isn't oil sounds way to risky.

as for seafoam, it is a petroleum based product. its safe to use in your crankcase. its designed to run in your crankcase. you can run it in your fuel as well as your oil. I use it every 10,000 miles. run 1/2 can for 200-250 miles in the oil prior to your next oil change and a full can in your gas tank. drain the oil, fill the gas tank, fill the oil. pull the brake booster hose, fire the car, let the engine "sip" off 2/3 of the remaining 1/2 can, (engine will stumble and pop... its supposed to do this), then quickly pour remaining 1/3 portion into the motor quickly so that it kills the motor, (if it doesnt kill the motor, turn it off). reattach brake booster line, allow vehicle to sit for about 20 min, fire it up and run the piss out of her. http://www.lt1engine.com/tech/how-to...arbon-buildup/

Is it good to seafoam any vehicle. I was thinking about using it on my monte carlo. I usually like to give it some special treatment every now and then. I was looking at a can of it a few months ago, but decided not to try it cause I really have no idea what the heck I am doing. But It's pushing around 125 thousand miles and figured it could use something to help it out on it's trip to a million miles

yeah, its fine to run the motor with the valve cover off, just dont drive it around like that. and keep the cardboard nearby cus if everything is working properly, oil will be squirting out of the pushrods/rockers and you want to use the cardboard to direct the oil back into the head to drain back to the pan. and yeah, the motors are tucked away in these damn cars. at least you only have 6 cyls to work with. lol. one quick thing before you go (if you havent already), let the motor warm up before you go driving on it to give yourself some extra time with the motor.
