It's justification is a farce, and the vast majority of its owners are pious do-gooders who have their heads in the clouds and their thumbs up their ---.

I think it looks like a big lunchbox with fisher-price taillights and it drives like my sister's HotWheels Barbie Jeep. I would never own one, sit in one, or even look at one. The fact I even talk about it surprises me and harms my soul.

If you want the absolute best mpg in the market, and won't settle for less, get a diesel VW. It performs better than the Prius in the MPG department and looks normal to boot. If you can stand to wait -- get a Chevy Cruze. Prius highway mileage, good looks, and a great interior for less $$, and the knowledge you didn't fall victim to a fad and a scam.

EDIT: The above was a rant, and not directed at anyone in particular.

Don't forget the fact that the prius has 0% domestic parts content and people have actually died from overwork in the assembly plant.

Really...a 2009 Prius, that's the best you could come up with?? Like was said earlier:

Plus, the fact that its built in Canada without that hybrid drivetrain means there is less total environmental impact (no nickle mining, no empty carriers making trans-pacific voyages burning thousands of gallons of bunker diesel, etc).
This is the way to go.

I for one, think the Prius is a nice car....my wife owns a 2005 Prius (I unfortunately told her she could get whatever she wants...knowing the next new car purchase would be mine and I could get whatever I want [the games we play]) . Yea, it gets between 42-48mpg, but the initial cost is high. Your best bet is a Corolla, or new Cruze, or something less expensive that gets 30+ mpg. Invest the money you save, and with the profits (maybe not in todays market), you'll come out ahead.

Better yet, buy a Motorcycle.

yes, but using less gas doesnt directly mean helping the environment. I could use less gas in my non emissions 94 Z28 than in my 98 full emissions pickup truck and put out more pollutants with the Z than the 98.

while I wont say that the car is evil... I will say it is of a poor design, mechanically and operationally. gas/electric hybrids are a waste of money and technology. the volt has it set up right. electric motors powering the car all the time with a small motor to recharge the batteries. the reason it is so much better is because you waste the most amount of gas during acceleration. the way the volt setup works is that the gasoline motor revs up to its optimum power making/fuel efficient rpm and runs at that rpm till the batteries are charged back up. with the prius, part of the time, you are using the electric motors, some times you are using the gasoline motor. wasteful piece of junk. its just that america is f$*#ing retarded sometimes and the prius was seen as a gift from above when it came out even tho its not that great to begin with.

Now that it's warmer, I'm actually getting 100000000000000000000 mpg. How, you ask? On a Schwinn. Takes about 30 min to get to school (5 miles) and 15 min to get to work (just over 2 miles). If I drive, it's 20 min to school and 10 to work, mostly due to the terrible parking at our hospital and university.

I'm thinking about getting a road bike (mine is a relatively heavy mtn bike) to cut the weight and rolling resistance so I can cut down my commute times. Oh yeah, and your tax dollars won't be going to paying for my hospital visits due to diabetes non-compliance, the PVD in legs, CAD in my heart, and the 63 other conditions related to obesity that sucked up NINETY-NINE BILLION DOLLARS of our tax money in 2006.

Wanna save the world? Buy a bike.

And obviously this doesn't apply to the people who have to commute like 40 miles one way every day.

I am some curious as why someone would buy a Japanese vehicle instead of a fuel efficient American vehicle like a ford, which is proven to be a better car..

The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid is simply amazing, 41 MPG CITY. That's near the prius's fuel economy in a much more attractive car.

Needless to say, I am very impressed and proud of Ford right now.

Word. I'd rather have the car that gets 15mpg less and doesn't look like an egg with windows.

And Fusions are actually NICE.

I think the Focus is more comparable, but I love all of the Ford lineup. They really need to do work under the hood of the mustang though. That's just a huge let down.

No actually the more comparable one would be the 2010 fusion hybrid most fuel efficient midsize car on the planet
