I'm seriously thinking of leasing a Volt. I just dont know if I could keep it under 12k miles per year. I've already put 8k on my truck since January.
My dad's thinking about trading the Malibu in on one or leasing one.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to find a new truck.

Why the hell are Fords so much cheaper than GMs? I can get an F-250 for less than a Silverado 1500.

Well, if you'd be driving it well beyond 12k miles it might make way more sense to get a Cruze Eco or something. Once the Volt is on its gas engine, the difference in driving cost between the two is pretty small. But if you can keep it to ~40 miles a day, 6 days a week you'd be doing the vast majority of your driving in EV mode, and your total would be about 12k miles for the year

And then people wonder why GM has higher average incentives

if I hadn't bought the Silverado 2500hd that I have now, I'd probably be leasing one.

as for trucks, keep in mind, Ford builds one main truck line, the F-series (forget lincoln and cadillac for GM), GM builds 2 main truck lines, GMC and Chevy's. so Ford can spend all their "truck money" developing things for one truck line whereas GM has to split theirs (or increase it) to create parts unique to each line. so in order to recoup some cost from building 2 separate truck lines, prices are higher. not to mention, you do get what you pay for.

are you looking for new or used?

well, its not guaranteed that I'd be over 12k. in 3 years, id most likely go over 36k tho. and like I said, my total daily commute is less than 10 miles. then there's the long trips to NC for reserves, and trips to Charleston and whatnot. but if worst came to worst, my wifes 09 jetta gets over 40mpg highway (13 gal tank).

I've seen the tests, pales in comparison to what they've done with the LSA. but I will say that ecoboost is one hell of a motor.
