I don't agree. He then acts just like the cops he is chastising.

What is the difference between professional courtesy and courtesy?

thats a little ridiculous coming from tht judge i mean killing someone and getting a ticket for tint is 2 completely different things and in another state and not even being registered to the car its not like the person was even breaking a traffic law

And FTR, it was a city cop, not a state cop. And sorry, even tho my b/f is a cop, he will even admit the cops in Ga are a-holes. My b/f give professional courtesy to fellow out of state cops but he says no more. He had no reason to pull us over other then a flashy car from out of state. Easy $$.
Based on GA traffic state statutes as they were explained to me....You are responsible for equipment violations as the driver, not him. The officer CANNOT issue that ticket to him. Period. The officer can issue a ticket to the passenger of the vehicle if it is related to VEHICLE REGISTRATION issues only (expiration, fail to register, fraudulent registration). Not equipment...

"My b/f give professional courtesy to fellow out of state cops but he says no more."

One cop being strict, but following his guide lines as he was trained to do so... influences his decision to cite? That is EXACTLY the same thing as a civilian on here saying one deputy at your boyfriend's agency is an asshole... so your boyfriend must be an asshole. Come on, you guys need to relax....calm down... it is a non-moving violation with no points on your record and just go on living life.

I think the word Professional courtesy came about when many cops realized people they were pulling over would be the same people coming to back them up when they are getting their ass kicked... I know that still sounds "bad" to general public, but it has a point..

Somewhat along the same lines as giving a break to an ER doctor that might just be the guy working when my kid breaks an arm...

ethical or not.. it is a gray area, but in reality... it is just courtesy, I cannot find it in my heart to give military personnel (retired or active) a ticket. Even if they are obviously speeding.. only one ex-marine got a ticket from me because before I could even ask for his ID he called me an asshole and said "see you in court" (you wonder why some cops are hardened?).

However, when you get cops that say things like "all out of state cops are getting tickets now, because my girl got one" or the cop that openly admits "NO COPS GET TICKETS FROM ME!!"... it makes us all look really bad. If you feel that way..ok, but keep it to yourself.

I guess it would fall along the same lines as speeding, swerving, not stopping at a stop sign. The driver is the responsible party if issued a ticket. It shouldn't matter who the owner is. If you decide to drive a vehicle with improper break lights, or illegal tint, you assume responsiblity.

The only time when the owner would be responsible would be when the vehicle would be impounded but the driver will still get the ticket.

Angie

Next time you get pulled over, tell the COP you are an illegal alien and you will get a free pass.

Becuause our country is more worried about Joe Tax Payer then illegal's who get millions in free healthcare

WTF

I tinted mine at 35% just to avoid the tint harrasment. I'd say 35% is the national avg for being safe with tint. Sorry to see you got the ticket but its really not a big deal not like you get points taken. Either way its your b/f and the money would have been spent the same regardless of WHO got the ticket. So whats the problem?

Angie, you knew your tint was illegal in both states. And the fact that your boyfriend is a deputy makes the situation that much worse. HE put illegal tint on, now take the responsibility. Good lord.

Suck it up!

Brantley's replies have been absolutely right. Everyone of them. The OP and her boyfriend made the decision to put the illegal tint on. Now they complain when they get a ticket for it.

And worst of all, the call the officer an asshole for enforcing a law that they knowingly broke. Officers are not assholes for enforcing the law. I don't buy for a second that you didn't know how dark the windows are..... You earned the ticket and now just pay it. Good grief its an equipment violation and has no affect on anything other than your wallet.

Tint here is 50%. I put 35% on all my vehicles and it tests at 27% actual after you figure in the factory tint. 27% looks like paint compared to 50%, so I know it is a matter of time before i pay my stupid tax (ticket) too. And when that day comes, I will say thank you and pay it because I and only I earned that tag. (Officer or not......)

You both "feel". Want some cheese with that whine?

The officer saw the possibility of illegal tint and pulled you over. THAT, my dear, is Probable Cause.
