2. I don't want to mod my ps3. I want it to work as it was advertised to me. I never once said I agreed with the hacking now did I? Please, show me where I did. I said it's having exactly the intended effect of drawing attention. I want them to stop too so I can use my own ps3. My point is, Sony screwed a bunch of customers and that's why this hacking is going on, or at least that's what most of the hackers say is their reasoning.

Half of you don't care because you never used it and most of you probably don't even know what linux is, but I and many others purchased the ps3 specifically for certain uses that it simply can't do anymore. If they removed bluray playback this would be a completely different conversation, but it's exactly the same thing. They didn't make a progressive move to a new, improved version of 'other OS' like the xbox live examples, they completely eliminated the feature with no substitute. There are obviously some people that agree with me considering there have been a total of 8 class action lawsuits filed on the matter and one is still in the process

1. OMG!!! You said that altering a systems features after the console is released should be illegal, I pointed out that, that view is totaly obsured considering the Features that have been added to the PS3 for the past 4 years through firmware updates. If you don't recognize that then your lieing to yourself.

2. OH come on!! It did perform exactly as advertised and still do. YOU AGREED to update to the next frimware knowing that OS will be taken away, if it was that improtant to you than you should not have updated. Remeber the Box is yours but you don't own sony's online services and future software until purchase. If you are going to use their services, you have to play by their rules ALL COMPANYS ARE THAT WAY!!. No company allow you to have your cake and eat it too, because it clearly leads to lost revenue for developers and publishers, and online cheating, everybody looses.

3. People will sue about anything these days and most of those lawsuits have been dismissed.

Obviously there is a serious problem that Sony hasn't fixed and I'm just as annoyed with them as I am with the hackers that continue to succeed in breaking their security. There will always be hackers on any system, but Sony can't seem to handle it at all. I place blame on Sony as well as the hackers.
News flash Since lanch the PS3 has been the most secured system, it was a miracle that it took 4 years before it was hack, and the only reason it was because someone manage to get copyrited code from a Sony dev kit. XBL have been hacked since day one, online cheating was rampant and MS banned millions of consoles accordingly. Its only recently that PSN been subject to hackers, and remeber when XBL crashed for 2 weeks over the Christmas Holidays simply because people bought 360s. Here Sony is doing the right thing by identifying the problem, hireing an external secruity firm, and taking neccesary steps to protect it consumers. I really don't understand your Anti-Sony agenda they have not done anything wrong, its the Hackers thats engaging in Cyber terrisom.

There has been consistent hacking since 2007, it has just become overwhelming in recently, it hasn't just begun. A bunch of people had personal information stolen in March 2008, just like this, but a smaller number of users. The very first week Home was released, it was hacked. If you have been paying attention since the beginning, ps3 was almost completely hacked in 2006 . This is not the first, or even second time Sony has lost personal information of users to hackers. Like I said before, I don't condone the hacking and it pisses me off too, but Sony is partially responsible for the severity of the rampant hacking on PSN.

You gave examples of new, additional features, most that cost extra money and are not nearly replacements for other os. You obviously don't understand what other os was and what it made the ps3 capable of. It is a totally different media tool without it, and it's not what I and many other people payed for. Like I asked before, if they took off bluray playback would you feel the same way? Updating the firmware is necessary to use ANY of the other features of the ps3 over time, other than maybe the browser. Bluray playback, newer games, many require the firmware update. We'll see what the outcome of the merged class-action suit is. For the few people that know how to use linux, it was a big part of the ps3 and it was touted even pre-release as an impressive and innovative feature and was a major reason the system had a $600 price tag at release. If you remember, the US military bought 2,000 PS3's to run other os on as a supercomputer, a nice fact that Sony threw around to sell the ps3.

This Entire post is an out-right LIE!! Since you are presenting yourself as the type of person that is makeing stuff up, thus a constructive conversation is not possible. I will only correct 3 points, it would take 3 pages to correct that nonsense you typed on your computer. and Yes I do know What OS was being used for (cheap supercomputing and servers etc..)

Lie #1. OS was not the reason the PS3 was so expensive at all!!! The PS3 initialy cost Sony $860 to make largely thanks to the Bluray drive. Bluray Players back then cost $1,000, new technology and limited bluray diodes drove up the price. The Main reason OS was implimented for the ps3 was an attempt by Sony to make the PS3 MORE AFFORDABLE for Sony through european and other territories tax breaks... (please note that what you posted was an outright, complete and total LIE.)

Lie #2 You don't need a Firmware Update to play back any Bluray films. Bluray specs (PIP, BD Java) has been finalized since 2007.

2. False bluray analogy is not even comparing apples to oranges, but apples to watermelons. Likewise Sony can't Disable the HDD, the Bluray Drive, the CPU, the GPU, The 512MB of Ram etc..and still perform the way it is designed.

Sony didnot advertise the military buying PS3s inorder to sell ps3's, there were news sites that reported the transaction yes. and Guess what those like the military and colleges are still using the PS3 as a cheap super computer and servers since they did not update to the latest firmware. Also in 2009, PS3's with OS were no longer in production when the PS3 slim came to the scene.

3. You continue to avoid the Fact that the SONY (and Microsoft) have been altering features to their console for the Past 4/5 years through firmware updates, I have lost count how many features have been added since launch. Heck the PS3 is now a 3D compatible bluray player in compliance with HDMI 1.4 specs as of late last year. And No one stripe anything from you, You voluntarly gave up OS system when you voluntarly updated to the next firmware. You own the Box but you don't own PSN or Future software until purchase. ALL COMPANYS ARE THAT WAY. and I'm Done... latter..

I'm not bragging that I have the beta or am participating in it....just bragging that I'm actually being able to play Xbox Live.

Isn't the Resistance 3 beta packaged with socom 4? I think I saw that on the package, as it was the last game I bought (full deployment bundle).

Preordered Gears 3 yesterday! September is a long ways off!

This is not true, there have been continuous updates to the Blu-ray firmware that Sony includes in their system updates. Yes most films will play but some won't due to updates in copy protection, and other features which is why all blu-ray players request you have some sort of internet connection with them.
