LA to San Francisco Route Question

I'm going to be driving from LA to San Francisco later this year while on vacation with the wife and daughter.

Question: Is it worth the extra time it takes to drive up State Road 1 along the coast? Or, should I just take the quickest route, Interstate 5?

Also, if anyone would like to share some good places to stop along Route 1, I would appreciate your input. I'm allowing a day for the drive.

Thanks,
FF

If it for vacation...TAKE THE STATE ROAD 1!!!

If you're just driving and want to get the SF fast...take the 5.

Yes, it's worth it.

I haven't done the Southern California coast in years, so can't give you good places to go, but I'd do that drive over I5 unless you're in a hurry.

Since you have the time take PCH1 instead of the 5. It's a fun drive and you'll enjoy the scenery. There is nothing to see driving on 5.

Yep, the 5 is so boring that it's super easy to let your foot ride downward a bit hard. I caught myself running at 135mph. It didn't seem so fast until I passed another motorist as if he were standin' still.
