Yes! Agree. But I drove a new Mustang. Notchy (esp 1-2), and not unlike the Tremec in feel.

Let's not make this another Mustang vs. Camaro thread. OP just noted the issues 'Stangs are having...

I don't have any issues unless it’s 32 degrees or lower and I don't really drive it if it’s that cold. My Pirelli's harden up when it’s cold out and it is definitely not going anywhere when it snows. Although the V6 and V8's transmissions are the same, I wonder if the torque rating is considerably lower in the V6 Getrag. The transmission ratio's in the V6 MT82 are insane.
1st 4.236
2nd 2.538
3rd 1.665
4th 1.238
5th 1.00
6th 0.70

That would usually be re-rated after the gear set swap so more than likely it is. I'm gonna dig around to see if this is the case. I can only imagine having a 5.0 with 3.73's and a 4.23 first gear ratio.

Anyway, the guys who tried the lighter synthetic have reported it fixed the issue, most of the people want to try it are in parts of the US who are already experiencing great weather so, we will find out next winter I guess.

Edit: This is something that my transmission doesn't have that Getrag's in the US have... Skip Shift... My transmission didn't come with it.

The Getrag in the V6 does not have the beefy internals the 5.0's MT82 does. Just the gearbox is shared... If it was rated at the 5.0's level, the V6 gear set would be a cheap and easy upgrade and a pretty popular mod.

A good friend of mine has a 5.0 with this transmission. Its been a problem since day one. Fords put the new oil in it and its improved but still not what it should be. Its ruined the new car experience for him since he's always thinking about the gear box. He went for a ride with the Ford service rep and the car was shifting fine so the rep slamed on the brakes and came to a stop then took off and the car started to grind while shifting. Strange. I think there is more to this than oil.

Mine shifts very smoothly so far, but I've only got 600 miles on it, so hopefully I'm not speaking too soon. Not too worried about it yet, though. Warranty lasts through 2015. If it starts having problems and they can't fix it, I'll just lemon law it.

I do hope Ford learns their lesson about Chinese parts, though.

That doesn't sound like this problem at all. That sounds somebody didn't know how to shift The cold shifting issue only occurs when the fluid in the transmission is cold, once the fluid is warm, the shifter can be moved into gear with two fingers. Another thing I totally forgot about until I mentioned the TSB to a couple of 4.6 and 5.0 friends of mine, Ford fixed a clutch pedals issue last year. There was an issue where some of the clutch pedal in the V6/5.0s were not returning from the floor. Ford put the GT500 setup in the 5.0's that were built after summer I believe. These clutch pedals are pretty firm and require the peddle to be completely to the floor before you can enter another gear. However, the clutch will start to loosen up around 4000 miles... Some people (A lot of us) try to short shift the car... don't do that...

Yep, I have this issue as well but since the winter has ended it has completely disappeared. thePill is right though, it only occurs when it is close to freezing outside and when the car is cold started. My first run through the gears has the tiniest of bumps to get into second. For the most part though, this transmission is hands down the smoothest stock transmission I have ever driven in any Ford.

The pluses definitely outweigh the minuses for me so far. If the transmission ever does go, I might change my mind but so far it has given me no reason to think it will.

I'm not used to being the one who does this, but no one else on Camaro5 has done it yet in this thread, so I feel obligated by my community to ask an important question.

Are you Mustang guys aware that you are posting a Mustang-specific question to a Camaro-centric community?

It's a fair question.

Yes, I think it was a Camaro owner that posted the thread though. I threads like these are posted to attracted the Mustang owners. It quickly got my attention and when I found out what it was I posted an explanation... with a cherry on top.

As long as its in the General Automotive+ Other Cars Discussion forum, why should you care?

Besides, it was a Camaro owner that posted it.

I could have missed it but I don't believe a single mustang owner has asked a question regarding this subject. Sorry to invade your little club.

I only cared enough to inquire. I don't care enough to do anything about it.
