Nice! If the roads and cars can handle higher speeds, why not?

If some parts are going to 85mph, will they increase other roads to 65mph or 70mph? Let's all wait and see !!

Read the cross thread, the way the article is written is very misleading.

The bill has been referred back to TxDot for analysis. Sounds good to a layman, what it really means is the bill has been parked.

Nobody would put a date on when and or if the bill will ever see daylight again. Particularly not in this legislative session and TX legislature only meets ever two years.

Bet the NJ or PA legislature would have you arrested for introducing a bill like that! At least TX got that far!

hot_rod: Sorta. The way I read it, the TX legislature passed a bill that says the absolute maximum speed limit allowable has been raised from 80 to 85mph.

All that does is give TxDOT the go-ahead to go back and re-evaluate roads that are currently rated at 80mph to see if they can sustain an 85mph speed limit. If they can, then TxDOT is free to change out some signs.

The roads that are currently set at 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, and 75mph are probably not going to change because supposedly those were already evaluated back when the maximum limit was pushed up to 80.

And remember, highways like I-10 and I-35 that run through any kind of city jurisdiction typically have a much more difficult time getting bumped up due to local complainers.

"TX legislature approved" sounds plural it's not. The house approved it and senate is
considering similar bill. One bill results after TxDot sends a report back and then after rewrite (reconciliation - term I should have used) in a special committee.... then both have to approve the same bill.

.....and....someday they will get around to doing it and changing the signs .....
