Yeah please post pics of that custom elevated bowl if you can. That's not a bad idea at all. Thanks again for the tips, I plan on keeping her off the couch for now, once we get another seat for guests and stuff (probably craigslist special) She can hop on that one all day lol. I understand that these dogs shed, if I was to brush her regularly wouldn't that keep the shedding to a minimum? I ask because I wear a lot of suits and dark colors and dog har looks funky on that stuff lol.

try to get the dog use to only getting attention early in the AM before you get dressed to leave. Keep saying the next dog I get won't shed, but that doesn't seem so important when your picking one out. Better with light colored dogs, Lady is mostly white and its been real nice. But when Sugar from next door comes over [black and brown] you know every spot she laid. |

There's mixed info on preventing bloat. Some sources say raising the food bowl actually increases the risk because the dog can and will eat faster. Find a vet that specializes in giant breeds and ask them. We had a Rottie die of bloat - not a good way to go. One thing the vet told us is that we could have had her stomach tacked to her chest wall (easy to do while being spayed) to prevent the twisting of the stomach. If you plan on getting her spayed, ask about that. No matter the breed, puppies are fun, even if they're a lot of work - enjoy!!!

There is never an urgency to eat more then needed. There is none of that I gotta woof down everything I can now. Which I know vets don't like, gotta buy their $100 a bag dog food and only 1 feeding a day bla bla bla For me it seems it they learn early that food is never a worry, they don't over eat or fast. |

OMG, I want a female dane!!!
We have a boxer/shepard mix as well as a shih'su/pekinese's mix. A dane would make it Large, Medium, and Small!!!! I do think the camaro would be doomed transporting the pup tho.....may want to rethink that. ![]() Either way good luck and enjoy your new family member!! Cheers K |

Love the breed! I use to do a lot of rescue work several years ago with Great Danes. I would help foster danes, rehabilitate the abused or neglected and rehome and help with transports. Plus I also shared my home with 4 of my own Danes. 3 rescue and 1 from an excellent breeder. I will absolutely have one again, they are by far the smartest and funniest breed. I also had 3 mixed breed rescues at the time, so I had a house full but love it!
Good luck and start training ASAP! Research everything you can get your hands on. You have to be careful raising a great dane, even food should be researched. If they grow too fast, it can cause major problems.

Hey, the breeder I got her from is based down in Chesapeake VA. If you want the contact info just shoot me a PM. Super nice family that has a little farm down there, they got a house full of Danes and as far as I know breed them fairly often.
