Wow that is one monster dog. Imagine what a burglar must think breakin' into a house and seeing that horse with big teeth growling at you. I want one.

My thoughts exactly! lol They really are gentle dogs though, but I've read that they are suspicious of strangers and can be territorial...both of which are qualities I like because I don't live far from bad people, with bad habits.

Great Dane Wisdom:

1. Anything table or countertop level will be knocked on the floor sooner rather than later.
2. Slobber - a fact of life.
3. They are 5 times faster than you thought.
4. They fight with their paws.
5. They jump 5 times higher than you thought.
6. They eat 5 times more than you think.
7. They tend to act first and think later if at all.
8. Shedding - get used to it.
9. As was mentioned earlier, bedding is not safe.
10. They think they're lap dogs.
11. Be prepared for more attention than you ever thought if you go for a walk with one.
12. Train them early and often.
13. They have weak hearts, be careful with any operation, including ear cropping.
14. poopie poopie poopie

I loved mine in spite of all of that!

Thanks for the words of wisdom LostInMoscow, I have decided not to crop her ears, it's too much work/maintenence for a purely cosmetic reason that my wife does not approve of. Plus she's so darn cute with the ears all floppy.

Quick question, I have read that having an elevated bowl helps prevent BLOAT in these dogs, does water also need to be elevated? The reason i'm asking is because the elevated dishes I found are so small, and having to refill that small bowl of water a million times a day would get tiresom I think.

Seeing as how every toilet in my home was emptied of water every time someone left the lid up and mine didn't have a problem with it, I wouldn't be real concerned about that. The biggest issue is keeping them from being active when their stomache is full. I'm not a vet though.

I used the tallest food and water bowl stand I could find. Makes it so much easier on them to ear. As for the amount they eat..we feed ours about 2 cups dry in morning and 2 in the evening. Vet said don't just fill the bowl full or they will eat and eat . I'll post pics later of mine jumping when we played. Surprise you for sure.

I found some bowls I liked and just built a table to fit them. It is not that hard and it didn't cost very much. I can take a picture later if you like. Very sweet dogs, very lazy dogs, if you let them ran around or you take them for walks daily, they need play time just like every dog. Training? You need to start the first day she comes home!!!! If you don't want her on the furniture don't let her. My dogs don't get on the bed or couch unless we tell them, my dogs are 2 and 3 years old and about 3 months ago I put a older couch in the living room for them, now they know what not to get on and what they can get on.

They grow up fast!!!!!
