Today's commute

I have a district position which, requires me to travel quiet a bit in state. Today was a little bit of an adventure in the state of Arizona. If you live in AZ or have you'll appreciate this, if not check out some of these areas:

1. Left home at Shea and 32nd street in Phoenix and headed to work at Sedona. The route I took was the SR51 north, 101 west, I-17 north and SR179 north. I noticed something amiss on the southbound lane on the I-17........I'll get to that later. Leg one: 114 miles
2. Left Sedona and went to Payson. The route I took was SR89A west, SR260 east and SR87 south. Leg two: 89 miles
3. From Payson I went home. I took the SR87 south, took Shea Blvd west to 32nd street. Leg three: 80 miles

Total round trip commute: 283 miles, approximately 6 hours drive time.

Now this isn't the longest commute that I do, the longest is 308 miles through the desert rountrip. I also don't subject my Camaro to this kind of driving duty, I have a Fiesta for that. But today was special because when I was driving to Sedona going north on I-17 the entire sountbound side was shut down between Sunset Peak and Bloody Basin Road. Now this is about a good 8 to 10 miles of cars just parked on a 95 degree day on the interstate. Some of our employees got caught in this gridlock and didn't get out for 4 hours. Keep in mind this area is desolate, there are no towns, exits or turnarounds. If something happened here well...your just plain stuck. Luckily I found the reason and I was able to detour through the badlands....I never thought it would be for this:
