Opinions on Pontiac Solstices?

Looking at a black GXP, 15,000 miles. Leather, loaded for 17,000. Anyone have any experience with these? I know Pontiac is no more, so would repairs be expensive down the road? Anything in particular I should know about this car? Thanks!

Repairs and maintence would depend far more on the fact that it was a fairly low volume car more than the fact that Pontiac has been discontinued. GM still has to pop out new replacement parts for the next couple of years, just like they would for any other car.

I looked at the Solstice before buying a Sky (a few years ago). The only thing I didn't like about them was the tiny trunk. If you can live with that, then it's a great car. But, the Sky's exterior looks better and the interior is nicer (relative to the Solstice). The car gets great gas mileage and I actually drove it in the winter in Chicago just fine. Could be a collector down the road......but you never know.

Yeah, pretty much. Sky was 4 inches longer and 25kg heavier, but other than that, it really just comes down to sheet metal.

I've driven both the base model Solstice and a Sky Redline (GXP basically). For a little turbo 4 it had some get up and go! They're just too small for me, especially the passenger side, my feet (size 14) were extremely cramped over there.

Not as bad as the N-bodies. Sky at least had its own unique sheetmetal.

A lot of the Solstice was cannibalized off of other GM products...compare the reverse lights to a GMT-360 Envoy's.

Decent cars though.

The Kappa's were awesome little cars and its a shame GM didn't continue the platform. These are quick cars with great fuel economy, mostly due to the low curb weight. For 17k with that low miles you should snatch it up while you still can.

Thanks for all of the input. It's greatly appreciated. Good to know there's no major horror stories with them then. Going to go look at it this weekend, we'll see what happens! I may end up in a Solstice over a Camaro! (I'll still stick around regardless ) I guess the worst thing is, I'll have to deal with everyone telling me I drive a "girl car". I never understood that anyway, I just shrug it off.

The Kappa cars are both great products. You are sure to enjoy driving them.

Girl cars don't go zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds and the quarter in 14 flat.
