Front Plate Ticket

We picked up our new vert on Thursday. the weather was awful here this past weekend so we did not use the Camaro until Tuesday. The dealer installed a flip plate for the front plate (required in NY). I hate the way it looks with the plate up so I left it in the down position figuring if we were pulled over I could just say I forgot to put it back up when I was washing the car.

Well my wife was coming home from work yesterday when she was stopped for no plate. Well she told the officer that her husband did not put the plate up but the officer either did not understand or had already written the citation. She handed it to my wifer and told her have your husband put the plate back on. She told the officer it is on can I get out and show you? She went to the front of the car and extened the plate to up up position and the officer sad I have never seen one of those before guess you will have to plead not guilty.

With the surcharges it is a $90 ticket. Another reason I hate NY state $90 for a missing plate really? Anyway she will plead not guilty and I am pretty sure we wont have to pay the fine since the plate was on the car. I guess since she got pulled over on the second day she drove it I will have to leave it up when driving. Any way thanks for listening to my rant.

Plate tickets are just a way for the state to make money. Any arguments about it being for identification, safety, etc. are there just to take the focus away from being a revenue generator.

Intriguing, I heard that there was a proposed bill to allow specific classic cars not to be required to have a front plate. If there is any truth to it, who knows. But that would be cool if we applied to this.

I most of the time tend to flip my plate up before I leave if it is down. I did however forget once and drove by about 3 cops and was never pulled over. Could of been a cop in a bad mood too!

It's PBA near New York City, and FOP just about everywhere else.

New cars in Washington don't require plates right away as it takes time for the registration, etc, to be processed. What gives with NY?

Just go to court and see what the judge says.

If you want the law changed, call your state representative. Or just leave your plate displayed.

Revenue, especially in an area where a great deal of money has been spent on red light cameras. Luckily, where I live it is rural and they aren't real anal about it. Also, why are motorcycles exempt? Why not be able to pay a $25 fee per year to be exempt? I would pay it. Must be time to write my Legislator.
