That is Frickin Awesome! That car with 600plus ponies....I'd have to think long and hard about getting a ZL1 instead.

Youd walk by a ZR1 for a ZL1????????? Yeah you are crazy.

Yes there is a market. I'm part of it.

$60,000 is not some fantasy number that no pony car can be sold for guys. A fully loaded 2011 gt500 convertible is already damn near 60k and it's funny that the power numbers are just some random guess, but somehow the 60k figure is set in stone? Even if it does come out at 60k, for every guy that could barely afford this gt500 and won't be able to afford the next one, there is one that didn't get the car because it wasn't nice enough, didn't perform well enough, or whatever. IF the product is better, people will be willing to pay a higher price for it. It's just a question of if the car will be worth it and I think Ford has proven with the Boss and the new 5.0 GT that they are very aware of what a fair price per performance is.

Who thought Ford would be able to sell a $150,000 super car?

Bottom line: Unless Chevy and Dodge make some big changes, that new GT500 with 620+ hp is going to be the most badass "stock" muscle car made - performance wise. No if's, and's or but's. Game over.
Thank you! I'm a SS owner and I agree. You gotta call it like it is.

That is crazy talk. I'd take a ZR1 over any other car in the world, probably. I'd take a ZR1 over a Bugatti Veyron. Maybe I'm just as crazy

I don't get all of the hype...

I particularly LOVE this car wars stuff. I've been waiting for this again since the early 70s. At work a few years ago we were having a discussion of things going out of style, then re-born as something new. I remember someone asked me what, if anything, from the 70s would you like to see return? (Everyone agreed leisure suits were NOT on that list) I said "the muscle car wars". And now they're here again, and we're all looking forward to what's the HP ante up to this year? Gotta love it. In school we used to "bench race" all the new muscle cars against each other. Now we're doing it here.

Car companies compete for your $$; that's when the consumer wins!!!

I need to find a smilie with a person jumping into a wagon....

Kind of funny to think that a rumored 20-40 hp (about the difference intake and headers would provide) is enough to make some people seriously form an opinion before the ZL1 is even out.

HP alone no, but that styling is enough to make me take a look at it, if that is indeed the direction it goes.

Plus why change a good formula when it works? Look what happened when Coke tried doing that.

I guess you could say GM is a little more methodical in their approach and less jumpy...
We're not jumpy.. We just like to be winning!

I don't know - he's pretty car behind. He is getting a good look at the back side though

I completely agree with this. But - going by your numbers, if $60K is the base, you'd be talking about nearly $70K for this car, similarly equipped.

My whole point is, is it worth it? Is the value there? I truly believe the value is there for the Boss and GT, and the 500. But what if the performance isn't? Are you die hard enough to look past that? Okay - so you have more power; what if there's no appreciable increase in handling performance?

$150K for the GT was a GREAT value compared to what was out there. I think Z06 was a better value, considering it's performance, however, I don't consider it a supercar, like I do the GT. Regardless - I believe the money for the GT was completely justified by it's performance.

I just got caught up reading this thread.

Here's where I'm at; I think its very important to see who will be king of the hill between GM and Ford.

BUT - consider this...

Since the price tag on these two will be 40k,50k,maybe some even breaching 60k with options, they are getting close to another car with less HP than both (by a fair margin - 70hp +/-)

I'm talking about none other than the revamped Nissan R35 GT-R. New for the 2012 model year, hp has increased to 530 hp.

Now, we have intelligent people from both Ford and Chevy (and Mopar) camps on this thread....

...How do you see these king pony cars competing with Japan's Godzilla? At $88,000, the new GT-R is going to compete with the same perspective buyers as these GT500's, ZL1's, etc

Neither the current SS or GT500 can compete with the 480hp variant GT-R...

We're debating on this civil war story, but what about a foreign made car coming over here and cleaning up?

I really hope my topic is not off-topic too much, but I figured it can play since I'm comparing it to the Chevy and Ford...

Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you like Nissans), I feel the GT-R will be superior to either pony car, but I would like to see some insight to how my idea is wrong

i think the GTR is a superior car to the camaro and mustang. Even superior to the corvette and despite having 100HP less than a zr1, still has the capability to embarass it thanks to AWD
