...EVER. I'm slightly shocked when I read comments suggesting the Alpha Camaro is coming anytime soon...let alone in tandem with the Zeta Camaro....

They want a good long run, but not too long that people lose interest.. 2015 will be close to 6 years and sales will surely reflect by then and profits will already been made. If GM continues to sell the 5th Gen at a 6-9k units a month until redesign they may not be as hasty to change, they could also do a mid-model refresh as well or introduce a new engine to overlap cost of the drivetrain and chassis upgrades. A Gen5 refresh and a GenV engine could push sales back up after 2012 for the remaining 2 MY's and provide a nice buffer and lessen the impact of cost on a total ground up new 2015 Camaro.. It would also let GM build the Camaro around the engine instead of the other way around.

Just a thought.
Much assumptions on the profit turnaround...you're probably barking up the right tree - but since nobody knows except the accountants, I'm not gonna comment one way or the other...

On another note, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the development costs on a next-gen Camaro. While this generation had to survive largely on its own...the 6th gen won't have that problem since most of the core development work will have been done for the ATS.

It'll be interesting to see how the timeline works out. Personally...I'm not expecting to see a 6th gen Camaro until calender year 2015. And then we can dig even deeper wondering if it'll come with a "fully-equipped" model lineup, or just the standard cars at first...

I can assume GM is getting closer to green profit by the recent improvements and experiments. We have new interior coming, a convertible, GMPP aftermarket racing support via SSX and the ZL1.. also, I heard there are factory cash back bonuses popping up now.

New products or advancements in old products is a sign that they have extra money to spend. Looking at the sales numbers I can distinguish profit margin upgrades from a panic induced reaction to slumping sales... I would say its the extra dough allowing this to happen mid-model.

Obviously, there has to be money before they spend it.

There will NOT be dual platform Camaros in production. You can permanently scratch that one off the list of speculation.

GM's track testing program is constantly evolving making thier cars better. You will be able to take a ZL1 to any type of track and wow most everyone at the track. Of course it will be better Pedderised.

Anyone that is underestimating the ZL1 is making a significant mistake. I can't tell you what I know, but I can say that the improvements being made are more significant that the information released to date. I KNOW this will be one bad axx automobile.

Pill,

How did the tests go?
