They say it has no effect on the earth but the Phenomena that happens around the time a super moon appears is crazy.

Coincidence?

I really don't think it's coincidence. Although there is no real proof, I think the effect the moon has on the earth helps nature do it's thing...which we call natural disasters. It just happens too often with supermoons to not see that.

What I believe happens is that the moon causes tides. Which in turn causes more pressure on the ocean floor. With the moon getting this close, it's only adding that much more pressure and helping along earthquakes/volcanoes.

Frankly I find this news stunning. I considered those 50 to be heroes....(and still do ) but I can't believe that the company is abandoning that plant.....

that being said...I don't know what the answers are....I can't imagine the stress working there.....what a tragic drama....like a terrible big screen movie.

http://www.astropro.com/features/tab.../suprmoon.html

All time and zodiacal position data are computer generated for
the alignment of Sun and Moon in ecliptic longitude using
Matrix's BLUE*STAR software, with nominal precision to the
nearest minute of arc.

A SuperMoon is a perigee-syzygy, a new or full moon (syzygy)
which occurs when the Moon is at 90% or greater of its mean
closest approach to Earth (perigee).

Well, he last super moon was back in 2005. It just wasn't as close as the one 18 years ago. In 2005, it's linked to the 8.9quake in Indonesia.
