That's right, they've got a 4th reactor on fire. This isn't Chernobyl, but it's bigger than TMI '79 as it stands right now.

I was listening to Hannity and they said it's only at a class 3. 3 mile island was a 5. Chernobyl was a 7!

Depends on who spins it. Some call it a 5, some call it a 4, others a 3 (Fox gets funding from B&W who had a hand in designing the reactors at TMI and by extension Fukushima via General Electric).

A 7 is the be all end all incident. Simply can't get worse than Chernobyl (where actual chunks of fissile material from the reactor became airborne in the blast). There's only been one class 6 and that was a Soviet nuclear waste disposal site back in '67.

The IAEA OFFICIALLY has not given it a class since it is ongoing. But with the current problem at the 4th reactor and the damage to Reactor #2 it could possibly set it in Class 4/5 territory due to the release of radiation into the atmosphere.

Just thinking logically here ... I suppose it could be worse than Cherynobyl if there is significantly more (by say an order of magnitute) radioactive material released. Or if the reactor manages to somehow go into an uncontrolled chain reaction and the fissile material detonates like an A-bomb (practically impossible I know, but I'd still put it on the scale as the definitive 'worst case scenario')

That seems to be the catch, all is well but since the quake was 7x stronger then it was built for, who knows what damage happened.

Breaking News MSNBC
AP say the Japanese gov warns of a serious radiation leak, lvls could impact human health. due to earlier explosion that changed the situation significantly. It has now surpassed 3 mile island. Its it now the 2nd worst ever nuclear disaster. But no health threat yet in Tokyo yet elevated lvls of radiation

First problem spotted, the backs up generators were ground lvl, they assumed flood walls were high enough. BAFFONS

on #2 half the rods were exposed and containment fractured.
Pressure in it dropped, radiation outside of it rose.

New fire in #4 reported, that was supposly offline.

This plant also has a history of faking records and holding back info.

I have a friend serving aboard the USS Essex....My heart goes out to everyone over there...Hopefully the nuclear situation will be contained and the damage prevented from causing further loss of human life

Did ya'll hear that they found a 4month old baby in the ruble? And that a family had to leave their two dogs behind and they were tired to a shed. When they came home they were still alive. They bit through the rope and climbed onto the shed during the tsunami. Happy tales in bad times.

We have already done so, I was just curious If the members of C5 were doing something collectivley. I have seen other forums do big group stuff for other money raising charities (wounded warriors, toys for tots, hait relief etc.)

Thats a good idea. You could pass it along to one of the mods and see if they want to set something up.
