Saturn currently fills the role that Oldsmobile did, and we know how that ended. The unfortunate thing is that Saturn is the brand most likely to win over import buyers because a lot of people don't realise Saturn is owned by GM (average buyers, not automotive enthusiasts).

But GM needs to get rid of Saab as much as it needs to lose Hummer.

and Pontiac, it isn't news that they are getting reduced to a niche brand.

Beat me to it. There is not a single vehicle that I know of that GM builds that does not share a platform with something, except the CTS.

I have to tell you that my wife and I just bought an Enclave and it is extremely nice. I am thoroughly impressed. We looked at the Acadia and the Traverse and the Enclave was a step above in both comfort and fit and finish. And BTW, we aren't old. I didn't think I would like a Buick, but I really like this one. I would also say that Buick buyers are probably more loyal to Buick than Saturn buyers are to Saturn (just a thought, not backed by any fact).

Saturn is a low-end brand and margins are probably smaller than those of Buick or the other arms of GM. That's what this really comes down to - who can make money for GM.
