Things like this have happened since the dawn of time. Problem is is that with the advancement in communications, satellites and such...people around the world hear about these tragedies in minutes where in earlier times (1800's and earlier) most people in the U.S. and other parts of the world never would have known that it had happened.

So...my point is (to all the 2012 doomsayers out there) the world has always had these natural disasters occur...they are not occuring at a greater frequency. You're just able to hear about them now.

2012 Doomsday? LAME. This is the 5th largest earthquake ever recorded, the first being in Indonisia I think. So its not the worst. Japan is on the ring of fire, and they call it that for a reason. Earthquakes are horrible in their destruction, but its been going on for thousands of years.

i am following it now on cnn.this is really bad.going to reach as far as russia.these people need our prayers.

I guy I teach with has family in Japan, and he fears they are dead. No communication at all. It is a bad deal.

i'm in CA.. about a couple hours from the coast. We're safe (THANKFULLY)but i have family on the central coast and military friends who are stationed in Japan. I pray for everyone and their families in the wake of this devistation...
