That was a very subdued and clever way to continue this discusion. But I can't think of anything else. I didn't read it. The title of this thread makes it difficult. I can think objectively but I also beleive what I beleive I know. Or....something......like ...that. Ya.

A group is being formed for oversight of the auto industry. The political leanings of the president (and your opinion of said leaning) have little to do with that fact. Similarly, slippery slop/snowballed 'and eventually we will be . . . ' scenarios are based upon political opinion and have minimal relevance to the topic at hand.

Another complication is that Obama has not yet appointed an overseer of the plans — a so-called "auto czar" — and many industry officials have said the lack of an administration point-person has slowed the discussions. Steven Rattner, a private equity investor, and Stephen Girsky, a veteran auto industry analyst, have been mentioned as leading contenders to be part of an Obama auto team.


Let's see who Obama has in mind to be the auto czar.. Steven Rattner

Rattner started his career as a reporter with the New York Times, first at the Washington bureau, where he became close friends with Times owner Arthur Sulzberger, who also was at the time working as a reporter, and then at the London bureau. Subsequently, he quit journalism and joined Morgan Stanley, where he founded their Communications Group. In 1989 he joined Lazard as a General Partner; he founded their Media and Communications Group and became their deputy chairman and deputy CEO before leaving to found Quadrangle in 2000.
He is married to Maureen White, the National Finance Chair for the Democratic Party. He has four children.

So he is a former New York Times reporter and he is married to a big wig in the Democratic party.

All we have are our voices and not much else at this point in time. And based on the short history of how bipartisan the stimulus package was, I am not keeping my hope up that it will change.

I guess I am too pationate about some things that are happening to my country. This is unprecedented territory. I get too 'meat and potatoes' about them. lol

I have read all of the rules and try my best to follow them. And I DO respect them, please don't think that I don't. This isn't the place for politics I agree. It's just so unfortunate that politics have become almost synonymous with the auto industry. When was the last time that an 'oversight panel' was apointed to 'monitor' a 'radical restructuring' of the auto industry? Or any industry, with favorable results? Would the stance that, 'The EPA shouldn't be involved in this', be considered taboo? A statement that "we are going to a socialistic form" I understand is couter to what you just said I agree and I appologise, really. But a statement that "This IS a socialist way to do this" is a fact if you look it up. I respectfuly agree to disagree with the part I highlighted. It's like saying Camaro is offering Black, White and Silver. But you can only talk in depth about Silver.

I'm not arguing with you guys. (mods) I appreciate what you guys do in providing us with this awesome forum. This is the first time I have ever done something like this so I didn't even know if I was welcome because I didn't really have anything to tell anyone about but only used the forum to get info and talk to people who are as geeked about the 5th gen as I am. You guys really made me feel welcome. Maybe too welcome. I will DO my best to comply in the future. I come from a place where silence is agreement. But I understand now that this isn't the place for that. If I offended anyone I'm sorry.

I agree but I doubt they will want many from the current staff in the big 3. They've lost faith in them. As far as this panel goes.

It would definately make me feel better for the future of a powerful V8.

I too have read the rules and I'm sorry for breaking them on occasion. I'm not here to cause any trouble and am an enthusiast who loves his country and American muscle cars like the Camaro.
irpq11, (PQ) You and I both are passionate about these issues and rightly so. I agree with what you are saying as these are unprecedented times and it surprises me there isn't as many people worried about what the future holds who are car enthusiasts here on this forum. I felt the same way about this current election as most people voted without really knowing or worse, caring about what exactly the future policies of the person they were voting for would mean for the future. I agree with you that by definition, socialism is where things are turning even though that word seems to be something they want to avoid mentioning. However what I don't understand is where are the people defending the auto czar and panel appointment in this forum? Which leads me to the point I made above in feeling those people just don't care or don't care to know what is going on. (or try and silence talk about the issue, not speaking about you mods, just those who complain behind the scenes) How long is it going to take for people to wake up and care about the freedoms our young men and woman die fighting for around the world for decades now? How long until people realize those freedoms are slowly being taken away? The Camaro we all love and will enjoy in its current form is one of those freedoms that is in jeopardy in the future. If we are not allowed to talk about this in this forum filled with enthusiasts that should care enough and do something about it no matter how small, then where can we go? I want to hear those that support this auto czar and panel appointment.. I am a good listener and wouldn't get upset at anyone who expresses their opinion on this and other issues. If nobody steps up to the plate, then I can assume either nobody who supports it cares, or nobody here supports it that has taken a read of this thread.. For those that have successfully silenced talk about the stimulus and this issue which was in the bill and helped get this passed in a rush without anybody reading it have already gotten what they wanted. I wonder what the rush was since the bill wasn't signed until today, almost five days later. Now that it has passed, it is important to discuss what all this means for us and our country as it relates to the auto industry and beyond. However for this forum, sticking with the auto industry part would be appropriate I agree. I am just one voice in all of this and as an American am very concerned where all this will lead. If anyone supports what is going on, please come on in and join in the discussion.

Well I don't think we're the only ones who have ventured across the forum line concerning politics. We're just the latest to do so and the previous just avoid it all together which is probably for the best in this forum. That's probably why it seems like they don't care. If I can't find a diplomatic way to discuss a topic I'll just leave it alone in order to stay compliant. I've never been in a forum before. Some people can't participate in a political conversation without becoming beligerant. You should see my wifes father. He gets insane! I'm not sure if other forums are like this as far as policy but this is a pretty cool forum. Glad I don't have to moderate. Probably sucks to have to lay the hammer down.

Ofcourse we are not the only ones, I just have a feeling many may have just given up since this thing passed without a fight being allowed and without anybody reading it in its entirety. Unfortunately politics is infused in almost everything that is going on these days and the recurring theme for example re-implementing the fairness doctrine is to silence critics in the few mediums they have left. I understand the decision to keep politics out back during the election since those times do make everyone even more passionate and harder to moderate. However now that the election is over and all these new decisions and policies that are affecting us directly in many different ways including automobiles and our beloved Camaro, it is hard to stand idly by and say nothing about it. Especially in a forum about one particular car and in an area called general automotive.. I'll be back, I'm getting a call..

One thing that not many want to hear, and I can not dismiss, is the possibility of a really radical restructuring to the tune of stoping a model in Mid-Cycle. This is a serious situation. GM doesn't even know if they are going to file for bankruptcy yet. This 'Panel' could very well hav ethe power to make decisions that make it impossible for GM to continue certain things, ie. the Camaro. Those who disagree should look around. Something has to change about GM and it has to be major. If they refuse Chapter 11 then they will have to comply with the panel. That's why I am struggling with the decision to just go ahead and order one now. If my dealer doesn't offer a refundable deposit I may have CamaroScotty take my order. it's over 1000 miles from here and I would fly in and take receipt. That's how much I wonder about the possibility of what I said above. Some of our decisions are affected by what MAY be. In many situations we have to speculate. 'What ifs are really fun conversations'. And it really isn't so much fun to 'point, counter point' if everyone is in agreement about everything. Even the Camaro it's self. If everyone wanted CGM and 2SS and the RS package and the same rims and interior, it wouldn't be a very interesting conversation. I don't know if this is more about What, than Who or Why. But It's pertinate I beleive.
