Reminiscing....Camaros I've known.

She was a '67 Rally Sport, gold/black and owned by my best friend. We cruised the local 'strip' (don't laugh..five blocks up and back - one horse town in the middle of Iowa!) 327 as I recall and pretty darn fast - until one night when a U-turn went wrong. Yes, we used to 'street race' (forbidden now, just as no seat belts, smoking, riding in the back of pickups, unprotected sex and carrying a shotgun in the back window.) We did all of the above and my goodness, we lived through it. Then my friend got a blue '69 442 and did the weekend banzai run up and back to Minneapolis for school. After that, a plain vanilla '69 Camaro replaced the 442. 307 and four speed, butternut yellow. He built a really strong small block 350 and swapped out the 307. Painted the car dark brown and I made him promise that I got first dibs if he ever wanted to sell it. That was about 1972 or so. I got the call in 1976 and I kept it about a year; street racing my way through college until 92 octane disappeared from the pumps. My bride and I used to run the stoplights on the three-lane through Waterloo Friday and Saturday nights; we did pretty good against the 396 Chevelles, Chargers, Challengers and Barracudas. Got beat pretty good one night against a 68 Camaro with twin turbos and slicks...shouldn't have raced him after all! Those were the days!

Today I'm pushing 60 and have a 2010 2SS waiting for springtime; don't street race anymore (it's bad, you know!)...or any of those other fun things I did in my 20's. And you know what? ...I miss those days!
