It's easy to say "Well, if they can afford something that expensive, they can afford more"....but that's not the case most of the time. Price is a very sensitive part of product development. As you go up, sales decrease accordingly in the auto 'biz'. |

The Camaro helped cannibalize corvette sales. and the c6 is longggg in the tooth now.
gm drops a new corvette tomorrow and sales pick up significantly |

They claim Camaro had little effect on Corvette sales. C6 is only 5 years old and STILL outsells all of it's competitors (which have all seen similar volume drops, by the way...)...it's aged...but not 'old'.I expect they will increase the price of the Corvette this next generation...but this is neither here nor there. My point was simply that price is very tricky and much more influential than many think. But I'm not sure it matters...because I'm not sure I believe everything in that article. My first post in this thread was initial shock that this sort of news would drop so early, especially from tight-lipped Ford....I've since read more, and recovered. |

There is an old joke about the difference between a Ferrari buyer and a Corvette buyer. The Corvette buyer aska the business manager to get me done. The Ferrari buyer asks the business manager for a brown bag price.

I am still skeptical on the displacement increase of the 5.4. Honestly it doesn't need it. 2010+ GT500s that get the package from Ford that involves the TVS swap puts the GT500 to a 660hp rating, and it is shown that the 660hp is pretty conservative. This package retains the factory warranty. I have been saying the whole time the ZL1 needed to shoot for 600 or more hp because the GT500 would easily go that route. But Ford had made it known when the ZL1 was official announced that it was ready to up the power of the GT500. It was widely rumored for over a year now the GT500 would move to the more efficient TVS blower, this would come as no surprise. Heck it was even speculated that the blower Ford uses on the GT500 was close to being discontinued and forcing Ford to make the switch. I have no doubt Ford will make the TVS standard and put out a 600+ hp GT500. |

This is one of the more "electrifying" rumors I've seen in a while...It's still a good year or so away....so we'll just have to see. Not that it means anything, but none of this really effects my plans. I have faith in the ZL1, and I'm more than confident that both the Camaro team and the Ford people are equally aware of each other at this point - so it's anyone's game. If any of the rumor does com true, it'll just reinforce the fact that this segment is still alive and kickin'.

There seems to be an overiding consensus, that the only merit that the Shelby GT500's prodigious horsepower is applicapable to,is giggly burn outs, and 0-60 racing in the high school parking lot.
Check out Car and Driver's 2/2011 issue, where they take 20 of the fastest 2011 cars to Virginia International Raceway and rank them on a real track. The Shelby came in seventh, the Cadillac CTSV came in eighth. Having owned two Camaros,a 2010 and a 2011,both 2SS/Rs,one stick and one auto, and also having owned 2 GT500s,2008 and 2011,unless you drive the cars you will never get it. When you buy a Camaro, your first post will be,"what mod should I do first?"When you buy a Shelby, you just go out and enjoy it. 1 skip shift eliminator 2 short throw shifter 3 cold air intake 4 sway bars / all the way up to full Peddars 5 engine tuner/dyno tune 6 footwell lights 7 aftermarket nav 8 upgrade wheels and tires The Shelby thrives in the real world, and you don't have to tinker around with it.I have no problem leaving 2 black tire marks ,which brings me to .... 9 rework limited slip to engage both rear wheels. 10 high performance headers up to complete exhaust 11 remove or paint bowties By the time you add up ,all you have spent on mods, the price difference is not so big,and if you really want to pump up some power on a supercharged motor, it's easy and cheap. The engine in the 2011 Shelby is essentially a wet sump Ford GT engine.Adding another 50 hp would be simply adjusting the tune. Last edited by Blackbean; 03-17-2011 at 12:31 AM. |

I don't need to add those to my list to compete with the gt500.If you want to go that route, if I got a GT500 id have to buy the ambient lightning in the doors, the sexy dash gauges, remove any ford emblems, and a better looking rear end...er car.

2013 Shelby GT 500 To Put Out 620 H.P.
Leftlanenews is reporting 620 H.P. for 2013 Shelby! Looks like the ZL-1 will be left in the dust before it is even produced. I think it's time for GM to do some serious upgrades on the engine like giving it identical H.P. numbers to the ZR-1.

That would render the Z06, ZR1 and CTS-V completely useless. I don't think you should jump to conclusions just yet, we don't even know how much the ZL1 is going to produce it could still beat a 620 hp GT500 horsepower isn't the only aspect in winning a race.
