Think again, right now it looks very much like the base version of this will have a naturally aspirated Boxer in either 2.0L or 2.5L trim and will ring for at least base Mustang V-6 money and likely a bit more than that. A turbo Boxer version is almost certainly going to wear a price tag that starts with a three and my guess is that the second number won't be a zero.

^ That's will be lame considering you can buy a brand new WRX which has 265 turbo charged horsepower and run's to 60 in 4.7 seconds and runs the 1/4 in 13.4 for only $25k

The guy in the video said it will be cheaper than a 370Z, and those start at around 30K. Maybe they will do a base model in the 20s and have a performance model in the 30s.

i think thats the plan. originally they were supposed to be sub 20k cars, but toyota decided to take the car to the next level. the engine is planned to be N/A so i would expect 220 ish HP

Really they are making it NA? That sucks nuts, I thought it was always suppose to have a 2.0L turbo boxer even during the first econo version. If that's the case who the heck is really going to bust a nut over this car. I thought for once a car company did something right. Id rather have a MX-5 if they made it in a coupe.

yup, definitely N/A for a low-mid 20k car, at that price point the car better be below 3000 LB or i would just choose the 3400 LB 300 HP mustang. the engine will probably be 220 HP and 180 Ft-Lb.

on the FT-86 forums a good chunk of people are disappointed by the engine choice and are hoping for a STI (or toyota equivalent) variant with the turbo version.

If there is a turbo model ill trade my camaro in for it in a second. Well actually I would wait a model year or 2 but a boxer engine sounds way better than a V8 anyday way less common and its lighter with around the same power as a v6 camaro. And it looks amazing.

Hopefully the Subaru version will be more geared for speed and acceleration unlike FT-86 which has a Honda like 220hp 180 Ft-Lb. Oh sorry Honda's NA 4 cylinder rwd S2000 had 237hp and will probably smoke this FT-86. Subaru puts turbos in just about everything they sell so I cant see why they wouldn't put it in their variant and hopefully charge about the same as a 265hp WRX which starts at $25k

i dont see this thing having any less than 280 hp.. it will be more of a competitor to the Genesis coupe than anything else..

It is going to be cheaper than a 370Z, without a turbo. It may even be a bit cheaper with a turbo, but I would bet dollars to donuts if that does occur then it will undercut the Nissan by the skin of its teeth.

Start seeing, base versions for both the Subie and Toyota variants are heavily rumored (really, it's past the rumor stage now) to use naturally aspirated mills. And since Subaru doesn't make a non turbo Boxer than gets anything like 280hp, it's going to have less than 280hp in base trim.

A turbo version is coming but there is zero hope that it will be 25k since we already know that the base model will sticker somewhere in the 20's. At best that puts a turbo car in the high 20's, and that would be if the base ST86 started just over 20k. Unfortunately, it looks like the starting price is going to be more like the lower end of the mid 20 range so, I wouldn't hold out much hope for a turbo version anywhere in the 20's..

I hope you are looking to spend 1SS money, cause the smart money says that is what the version that makes Camaro V-6 hp is going to cost.

Less horsepower
Less torque
Less displacment
Less awd
Less doors
Less space

and

More money

then the wrx

They really screwed this good thing up with their pricing. The base Genesis coupe is a turbo 4 and starts at only $22k, what the heck are they thinking by charging $30k+ for the same thing.

Wow...Toyota mated a Genesis coupe with a Celica GT and tossed in a subie flat-six. I just yawned...

But hey, it will have Toyota's patented NOT OUR FAULT technology package ensuring you are to blame when it suddenly decides to make you the latest Kamikazee Pilot from the far east. Enjoy.

You more or less just described a thirty year history of Toyota's strategy for 2-door coupes. Take a look at the MkIV Supra and even the sixth gen Celica for reference. Whatever characteristics Toyota may have lacked over history with regard to their high performance, two door models, ambition wasn't one of them.
