![]() I'm not going to lie but Mitsubishi should just quit making cars if they're going to drop the evo. The EVO is their only good car because they put all their focus in to it. Every other Mitsu= cracked dash, shitty performance, and problems. Back in the day the Eclipse GSX's were pretty nice (Turbo & AWD), but they decided to cut that, why? I'll never know. This comes from a guy who daily drives one, hangs out on Mitsu forums, and has seen tons of these. They can be pretty good HP monsters, but to get their is not worth the money (unless it's an EVO). P.S. DSM for life

Read the damn thread. I in no way said the Evo was a bad car. I said it was a great performing car for the money. What I did say is that the Mitsubishi lineup as a whole is weak and that's the reason they're having problems selling cars in this country. This thread just further demonstrates the disconnect between enthusiasts and the general public. If you want to see what I mean, go out on the street and ask random people what brands they would consider when shopping for a new car. You would get a lot of Toyotas, Hondas, Chevrolets, and Fords. Maybe even Chryslers and Dodges. Mitsubishi? Maybe one or two. It's obvious that people here don't share my opinion, and that's perfectly fine. But consider that this site is centered around a performance car, which is also what the Evo is, therefore I would expect nothing but support for it. However, go to another site like GMI where people form opinions regarding automakers based around the automotive industry as a whole, and you'll find that many people see Mitsubishi the same way. Does it suck that the Evo may be going away? Yes it does. But like I said, if killing one low-selling car is necessary to revamping the rest of the product lineup or diverting funds towards other product programs that they feel will bring more sales and profit, then they have to do what needs to be done. And seriously, it's not like they can't bring the car back once all their ducks are in a row. GM did the same with the Camaro.

Those Evos make respectable competitors. As performance vehicles, they win a lot, although I can't see them taking out pony cars. A lot of tuners strive for these cars, so it is disappointing to see the product potentially disappear despite the enthusiasm. Mitsubishi does not offer a serious alternative. The Eclipse, while aggressively styled in this generation, does leave a lot on the table as far as performance. Mitsubishi has no halo car, leaving me to wonder whether the whole company is headed down the same path of blandness that Toyota has chosen over the last decade.
As much as I respect the car, I also have to take note of Mitsubishi's business. The company is not a huge winner in any market. It fields cars that don't really win at anything. I'm not sure that the brand is worthy of any enthusiasm from its customers, which leads me to believe that customers probably buy a Mitsubishi as a result of a phenomenal deal but usually shop elsewhere when it is time to buy another car. Obviously, I'm not impressed by Mitsubishi. Replacing Mitsubishi would be easy.

It's obvious a lot of you have never attended a club event or better yet, autocross. Evo 8s and 9s are placing high in every event, in every class they're in. They're a huge driving force in the aftermarket community and have major heritage. It's sad that Mitsu is doing this and not just putting it on hiatus. The evo X was a failure imo, and I thought they would redeem themselves with the next one. . . guess not.

One can only hope. Just another sign that the Tuner...cough RICER...crazy is finally on its last legs. When I was a kid supporting American Muscle was a very difficult thing to do as all American performance cars outside the Corvette and Viper were junk. Its vindicating to me that the cars like the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger with affordable V8 performance have proven once again to more desirable than 4 banger plastic clad econo-boxes. Even V6 muscle cars are desirable these days because offer even more affordable performance than their V8 counterparts. Even Asia automakers have taken notice, anyone notice the Genesis Coupe? Seriously cars like the Evo and STI may offer performance capability but both are ugly as sin and appeal to posers from a bygone era.

Who's the ricer, the person that cares more about looks than performance, or the person that cares more about performance than looks? The STi appeals to me because I can run high 11s in my sedan that grips better than a 911 and in the same trim I can drive it through the loveland pass in 5" of snow with 4 people inside and 4 snowboards on the roof. It's the same for many evo drivers. You let me know when your camaro can do that. Sure, I have an ugly ass spoiler on the back until I can find an rs owner with a blue trunk to swap me, but it grips and stops like crazy, is damn quick in a straight line and I'm never worried about driving conditions or having enough space for people or junk. That's what the evo and sti are THE BEST for and it's sad that one of them is disappearing for good.
As far as the posers comment. . . I can absolutely guarantee you that a higher percentage of sti and evo owners do real, sanctioned racing and modifications than the percentage of camaro owners. What specifically makes an evo or sti owner a poser? Most are dedicated performance enthusiasts looking for a DD that can also be their track car. Last edited by 8cd03gro; 03-04-2011 at 07:41 AM. |

I wouldn't turn down a evo or a sti,if I didn't like the Camaro so much I prolly would have got a sti
And if your into evo's, sti's or the z cars,I'm fine with that gives us some competition.now the little ricer cars some high school kids throw together that's different |

I guess it comes down to buy what you like and what appeals to you. Bottom line the Evo didn't sell enough cars to justify its existence. This thing swings both ways, 10 years ago Japanese performance cars were all the rage. In fact the Camaro died after the 02 model years and I had to resort to buying a Mustang because its what "I" wanted. I find it ironic how fast people jumped off the bandwagon when rear-wheel drive high horsepower Muscle Cars started coming back. It will probably swing back the other way if gas prices keep going up.
