It's not a question of hate. GM muddied the waters themselves with having all of the competing divisions. Chevy Impala vs Pontiac Grand Prix vs Buick Regal vs Saturn Aura. The brands aren't individual because GM decided to make it this way. It's only recently that they got rid of some of the redundant brands (Buick and GMC could go away tomorrow and the sales diverted to Chevy and Cadillac). This makes it hard for anyone to stand up and say "Chevy is it's own individual", when the company that owns it doesn't make a huge effort to do that.

You don't see many Lamborghini's competing with Audi's.

Chevy pissed me off for a while, hated the designs of the cars for years sans the Vette, stayed in the GM family for others vehicles til they finally got it right with the 5gen Camaro. went 20 years between Chevy models! 1990 Z24 Cavailier to 2010 1LT Camaro

"Chevrolet" is just a smoke screen. It's a brand, an alias, a nickname. "GM" is the organization, the decision makers, and what is on all the employees' badges and paychecks. I understand the concept of "brand loyalty"' however you must understand that brands do not act on their own. They are simply product groups. The only people that exclusively work for a "brand" within GM are either in Marketing, or involved with the dealers in some way (sales, service, etc...).

Today many "corporate parts" are used in every vehicle. The only thing brand-exclusive is styling and marketing. Nothing more. So don't take offense that people are "disrespecting the brand." Cuz it's just a concept / marketing tool. In reality, its all the same people working in the background.

When Lamborghini designs a new model, VW does nothing. There is no VW Gallardo. It is a Lamborghini. On the other hand, Chevrolet's new Tahoe is also a Yukon. Who gets the credit?

At General Motors, mutually useful platforms experience a level of corporate R&D that makes GM the streamlined company we know today. If everyone developed separate platforms, we would have cars with less value.

Let's talk about value for a second. Value is the worth of your money. It is how far your dollar goes. If Chevrolet designed the Camaro without any other GM input, it would probably be more like the inferior Mustang in order to keep the price where it is. Some of those more advanced features include the use of an international design team, including the Korean who put the pen to paper that became our beloved fifth generation Camaro. Without that team, this Camaro would have looked a lot different. Also, the Camaro probably would not feature advanced stability control with roll avoidance, head-curtain airbags, or an independent rear suspension, just like the Mustang.

I'm sure some Mustang guys are going to come in here and tell me their car is just as good as a Camaro. Let's remember that we're on Camaro5 for a moment.

The Camaro has more costly features than the Mustang built into the price. Bulk ordering has nothing to do with the price reduction because Ford can order parts in bulk, too. The difference is that GM does the research and development while Chevrolet takes more responsibility for the branding, marketing, and sales. Of course, Chevrolet plays a role in designing its own cars, but platform sharing and GM's interest across brands in building the best cars and trucks out there makes all of GM's cars great. Once GM supplies a solid platform, like the Camaro's Zeta, Chevrolet can choose from active engines, transmissions, and other components to build onto this platform and tune it to perform as Chevrolet intends. If another division uses the same platform, then differences will be in the priorities of the brand. For instance, Pontiac developed the Zeta into a performance sedan while Chevrolet used the same platform to build a coupe.

Overall, I think it is safe to say we don't hate Chevrolet. We just place all of the R&D on GM since GM has a long history of platform sharing. From an engineering standpoint, it might be more fair to give the larger company credit for doing so much of the work to keep Chevrolet's costs down.

I'm not brand loyal but I do currently own 3 Chevys. I don't see the big deal with referring to them as a GM product. They are under the GM umbrella and developed by GM so who cares?

I own 3 chevys, and im only 18. first thing i did when i got my truck was put a "CHEVROLET" banner on my windshield. i just bought the big bowtie logo outline for the rear window. ive got mini bowtie logos on both rear side windows. ive got a bumper sticker that reads "Id rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford." I spraypainted the front bowtie black with a blue outline, so it was more unique. On my 86 Camaro, i saw that there really wasnt a noticable chevy logo on it, and in addition to putting a "CAMARO" banner on the windshield, i put a bowtie on the bumper, and i have a big bowtie outline for the rear window that ill put on when the snow n salt are gone. in every conversation that turns to cars, i will fight for Chevy no matter what. I just found out my friends boyfriend owns a mustang, and i told her she had to leave him! (i was kidding of course) but she didnt want to tell me because she knew i would hate it lol. im also planning on getting the bowtie tattooed on my arm whenever i get the money for it. So yeah. I kinda like Chevy.

and yes, i know im weird

I pulled the Chevy badge off the rear on day one! I ordered the front grill replacement a week later.

It this thread for real. I guess we shouldn't say ford, toyota, honda, chrysler and so on when talking about the other companies.

Maybe the Op would be happier if we typed out General Motors instead of typing GM which is a lot easier and everyone on the planet that is coherent knows what it means.

Come on

Chevrolet does not build cars. General Motors does.

End of story.
