Interesting workout Tag. I try not to go over 8 reps on most of my exercises lifting weights. If I can do 10, I up the weight the following week so that I can only get 8. Heavy weight lower reps.

But like I said, I'm a smaller guy (5'10 and about 162 lbs) so I try to build as much size as possible lifting rather than shaping.

Workouts like the one Tag posted are similar to one I posted/use and similar to one's practiced by guy's like Charles Poloquin. They alternate combinations of accumalation and intensification. The posted routineis a little high in reps across the board. These routines are designed to build strength and SIZE. I to believe in more weight less reps but after using this type of program and seeing the results I use them often.

I have still not been lifting as the doctors still havn't figured out what's wrong with me. I did start doing cardio this week and am hoping to start lifting again next week. I keep setting off the stupid monitor I'm wearing. It's funny they have me wearing a monitor to see what's causing my problem but tell me to avoid doing things that cause it. I decided next week I'm going to do a handfull of hyperextensions, that usually triggers it, maybe with the monitor on they will see something. I am going crazy, I did not adjust my calorie intake when I stopped working out and gained a few pounds in the week I got out of the hospital, I hopped on the scale the last two days and am up 12 pounds in about a month,I am bummed but hopefully not a problem, fortunately I can cut pretty easily.

Dang CFD that stinks.

Docs I've found usually don't know what they're talking about unfortunately. Most of them don't know the first thing about athletics health. If you're a chain smoker that sits on the couch all day, depressed, high blood pressure and cholesterol then they can help you.

I once had an argument with my doc that he could prescribe me a pill or concoction to make me lose weight, quit smoking, lower my chol, lower my blood pressure, and make me happy. But he wouldn't give me anything to put on 20lbs of muscle in 6 weeks as that is unethical. Say HUH?

When I hurt my shoulder a while back they told me to quit lifting so heavy. I told him "ok yeah yeah just shoot the cortisone and let's call it a day". If I could get it myself I wouldn't even need to go see these guys.

Better living through chemistry!

Had my neck operated on a while back (thyroid) and they told me I'd get fat, I'd be tired, and blah blah blah for the next 8 weeks.

I had surgery on a Monday, 1 week later I was at the gym lifting. I was actually in the best shape ever during that time. Never missed a workout. I guess my metabolism slowing a bit allowed me to put on size more easily. I could walk by weights at the gym and put on size. Got up to 178lbs and 10% BF when that happened. I watched my diet close though and ate lots of protein when I realized what was happening.

I miss those days, well except for going 6 days at a time without sleeping haha. Funny how much the thyroid controls.

I see this thread popping up a lot and I wanted to give my 2 cents about getting/staying fit as pertains to nutrition.

Protein before and after a workout is CRITICAL to losing fat and gaining muscle. Taking around 10-20 grams of protein 30 minutes before working out helps your blood carry more oxygen, therefore making your stamina last longer. When you are finished working out is is VITAL to have at least 20 grams of protein 30 minutes after. Having lots of carbs after a workout is only going to hinder or slow your progress. Look for a protein that uses whey isolates as they absord and your body can use them to create muscle faster.

This is what I use, http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp...046468.4065346

While gatorade is great for rehydrating avoid it. Instead drink just plain old water and add electrolytes to your water.

You can also take a pre-workout that will boost your energy and focus. I use Jack3d and LOVE it, but may not be right for most people. It makes me run faster, lift heavier and enjoy my workout a lot more. Some people it can make them feel jittery or weird (this is just it opening up your blood vessels). Lastly jacked is not a steriod or anything like that, it is just a caffine boost with other natural additives to help your workout.

If any women are concerned this will not help them stay trim and toned, I have been using this combo for 2 years and I am very toned and strong for my weight (150). It all comes down to reps done (i do 3 sets of 12) and length of workout.

Hopefully I'm not repeating someone else and that someone can find this useful.

I normally take what doctors say with a grain of salt. When I was in my early 20,s I was in a serious motorcycle accident. My left foot was almost completely detached, they wanted to take it off but my dad argued with them and now look, I have some limitations but none most would ever know. Normally I would say there is nothing wrong with me, two things that are a problem are if I'm working on my back and get up fast I get dizzy and nauseous, same thing when I do hyperextensions, been like this as long as I can remember, the thing is when I went to the emergency room I got up normal from a chair and got a bit dizzy again sometimes norml but this time I went out like a light and was screwed up for several hours. They did every test you can think of and other than their original mis-diagnosis they have come up with nothing.
