A bill (H.B. 3147) has been introduced in the Oregon legislature that would severely limit vehicle suspension, body lift and wheel/tire alterations. Specifically, H.B. 3147 would ban vehicles whose bumpers are elevated more than 3 inches over the original manufactured bumper clearance. Identical legislation was last introduced in Oregon in 2001. We Urge You to Contact Members of the Oregon House Committee on Transportation and Economic Development (List Attached Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 3147 • H.B. 3147 would ban reasonably altered vehicles due to overstated concerns with bumper mismatch. • H.B. 3147 discriminates against hobbyists and aftermarket parts makers by leaving it solely to the vehicle manufacturers to choose bumper heights. • H.B. 3147 would force owners of modified vehicles to spend large sums of money to reinstall original components. • H.B. 3147 would ban useful alterations that provide adequate clearance for on/off road capability and accommodate heavy loads, larger tires, improved suspension and water-fording capability. • H.B. 3147 would impose a fine of up to $360 per offense for vehicles that exceed the 3 inch clearance requirement. DON’T DELAY! This bill tramples on the rights of 4x4 vehicle enthusiasts in Oregon. Please contact members of the House Committee on Transportation and Economic Development immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to H.B. 3417. Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org. Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Slightly off topic for Camaro5 but it shows what can/will be done if we don't unite and act.

That's what you get with liberals...Oregon is second only to California in the number of kook liberals it has. Once they get their way, we'll all be riding bicycles, much like like they do in communist China and socialist Europe.
Hell, thanks to them we already have toilets that can barely handle bird droppings, dumb curly light bulbs that take 5 minutes to fully light, and ugly hybrid cars people wouldn't buy without a tax credit. Big government statists, I can't stand them! |

Wait................what? 4x4 owners have rights? 28th amendmant. LOL
And just so everyone understands, bumper mismatches are HUGE in a car to car crash. But if you know you will never be in a crash then they are right, it's overstated. Not knowing the history of the bill or it's 2001 introduction, seems like this is the real reason for the bill. Someone was probably killed or injured by a jacked up 4x4 and this is the response. Not buying or selling, just amused by the language used in fighting off this bill.

this legislation wouldn't be too bad. Lifted vehicles on the roadway alter the height in which cars on the roadway are tested against, making it unsafe for other vehicles in which were not tested against the lifted car. I'm ok with lifted vehicles, as long as it's off-road (as in, off of the roadway ONLY).

Some of you are looking at the extreme, say an Excursion or a Jeep that's practically on stilts, say 2' raised. This bill wouldn't allow a vehicle to exceed simply 3" above the OE bumper height. It would also be fiscally costly to this community of enthusiasts who must now pay/work to reinstall OE equipment to conform to the law.
If the shoe were on the other foot, how would you feel if it was about lowering cars? It has been tried before. We can't give ground on these attacks, even if they're part of another hobby subset. The NIMBY excuse can't exist in the battle to protect our rights. |

the legislation doesnt say you cant lift the vehicle. You could, you just cant have the bumpers way up in the air. So they wouldnt have to spend a lot of money lowering the car, they just have to find a way to make their bumpers low enough to be safe for the people they might kill. By having a monster truck, those people endanger everybody around them. a lowered car doesnt present the same added danger. With that said, a car that is way too low can also be dangerous. |

I don't think it has to do with the liberals as much as it has to do with safety.
What seems to have happened is someone(s) innocent (non-liberal ) got F@#% up by a (non-liberal's ) not in compliance with the proposed H.B. 3147 and they are trying to prevent another occurrence and provide safety to all in a legal way. |
