There is an insane amount of data crunching that needs to be done. Someone figured out that thousands of personal computers working together would be faster than the greatest super computers in the world. Make more sense now?

Thanks for Folding if you can.

I'm praying for your daughter every day. I know that whatever happens God is in control and he will take care of her every second of the day and night. I always asked myself "Why me?" for all the health problems I have faced throughout my life. However all the problems I've ever had combined does not come even close to what Stephanie is suffering. She seems like such a wonderful daughter and I know that she knows you love her very much and she loves you too. Sometimes we all take for granted the days we are healthy, but during times like these we come to realize every second counts.. I wish there was more I could do for Stephanie. God Bless..

So basically they use the power of OUR computers to help in the research so that they can get more done in a shorter amount of time. Like adding processor speed and or more memory and or more RAM. Yea or Nay?

Yes, all the endusers running the software equals several super computers. And if you fold on your GPU then it is even faster yet.

ok . . . lets try a different approach:

What would be better in a tug of war, having the worlds strongest man or 100 average guys? The ___@home projects are using a lot of little guys to get stuff done.

All the programs operate like a screen saver. When your computer isn't doing anything else, it crunches data. When one data set is done, it downloads another.
ill put your ps3 against my Computer anyday....

I used to do SETI with my old rig and for no particular reason hadn't done it with the new rig. When I get home from LA and get settled into the new house I will set up our little network to use f@h.
