Broadly and generaly - 2 Strokes are more powerfull for a given engine size as compared to a simmilar 4 Stroke engine of the same size and weight but they are not more fuel efficient or as enviromentally friendly as the 4 stroke. That is what killed the 2 Stroke street production vehicles. My brother owned a Yamaha RZ 2-stroke street bike years ago and it had some work done on it. WOW! big power when it was "on the pipe".

These are not considerations for some military applications.

Stingr69 - Your statement may have been correct 20 years ago but 2-strokes have come a long way. A direct injected 2 stroke typically has the same or less emissions then a similiar power 4 stroke, with half the displacement, fewer moving parts, and significantly less weight. And almost always have better fuel economy. This article has some more information about what automotive companies are invested in 2 stroke development. 2 strokes are superior to 4 strokes in almost every imaginable way. Power delievery can be debated though. The only con is the EPA is against them for stigma they have. And most people view them the same way as dirty loud pippy engines.
