summer my ass, it's getting to be that in my area now, if it gets too bad will ride the harley instead like I did last year. It's a 40 mile round trip ride for me every day. However, I do get pretty decent mpg between 18-19 hwy in the car so I guess I will just wait and see how high it really goes.

Everything's going to skyrocket this summer I hear. The price of corn is going up because so much of it is used in ethanol. The part I don't get about FOOD prices going up because corn being used in ethanol is don't we eat SWEET corn and don't they use FEED corn to make ethanol?
Why can't we just stop subsidizing farmers to not grow corn? The Camaro gets better gas mileage than my 4 banger 4x4 pickup. Go figure. |

Times like this are proof that when prices are high the excuses of supply ands demand is false. We got a butt load of gas supplies in the US. [ as everyone is still out of work, not buying it.]

I never cease to be amazed at the capacity for Americans to freak out over 'high' gas prices.
Get used to the idea that gas isn't cheap. Seriously, get used to it. Accept it and keep living your life. Paying 4 or 5 bucks for a gallon of go-go juice isn't the end of the world. In fact, there are billions of people around the world who'd like to be paying a $4/gal for gas right now, let alone when gas prices go up this summer. In Canada we've been paying over $4/gal for regular for quite a while, and it hasn't really hurt us. In fact, some economists are saying that we have recovered. Those prices don't mean that it suddenly becomes impossible, or even difficult, for the average person to own a less efficient vehicle. There are tons of performance cars, pickup trucks, and big SUV's running around up here. As a percentage, we probably do drive cars that are a bit more practical, but the gap isn't terribly big. And to anyone thinking about trading in for a new car (I know none of you are serious, but this is a great opportunity to say it) the hit you take on trading in a high-value car you are making payments on for a new more efficient car is way more than the cost of the extra gas you're going to burn.

Gas hit $4 plus a couple years ago as well.
The situation in the middle east is an excuse for oil company's to raise prices, they do it all the time. Price gouge on speculation , make a huge profit and then drop them again. Its the biggest scam going in America, well except for health-care.. Thats the biggest scam. |

ethanol is a scam too, as if you look into it. Most of it is made with the waste left overs after they stripped the corn for the good stuff.
But they act like they have to use the corn fresh out of the field and then its worthless. Even after ethanol its still good for feed. Which they don't talk about. The OCC ethanol bike gave the best look inside I have ever seen of the real process. Before they took a kernel of corn and made two products, now they can make 3 from a single kernel. So of course corn prices should go up and that ethanol made to make gas cheaper hasn’t cause its cost so much to make ethanol??? It’s all a scam. |

Does everyone realize that gas prices are keeping up with inflation? The $1.50 you paid in 1980 is about $3.50 in today's dollars. Say you have a 20 gallon tank and you fill up 4 times a month a $3 dollars, you'll spend $240 a month. Is $320 a month at $4 dollars a gallon really going to prevent you from driving a car you like?

The gas station I use:
Monday = $3.11 for reg. Today = $3.28 for reg. Still better than other countries. We went to Costa Rica in January, gas was over $5 gal. (American) I bet it's close to $6 now.

I'll slash my driving in 1/2 and gas will cost me 1/2 as much just like I did in 2008.

If anything, I'd wager that our unwillingness to pay five dollars per gallon has helped to keep the cost of gas down in the western hemisphere. You're welcome.
