the first semi-automatic pistol I ever shot was a Kimber 1911 (coming from revolvers). I hate Kimber quit making the SIS line.... I'd really like a full size one of those with the rail. If and when I get a 1911, its going to be a full sized one with either a 4" or 5" barrel. There's a lot of other stuff that I think would be better (and lighter) for carry.

We got a ton of coyotes around here.... open season year round, I don't have to go hunting for them, I've seen more just standing out in my yard . I saw your name on here the other day.... figured you were either 100 years old or had a 1911 obsession

what kind of 1911 is that?

Must be nice, can you shoot them in your yard? Time for a road trip!

The 1911 is Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail or CBOB. Stainless is discontinued except for CA (thanks to our stupid laws) The "Free States" you can find them in a black Dura-Coat type finish. Its a semi custom made with Ed Brown parts. Basically a Kobra Karry for 1500 bucks less!

Match barrel, all hand fit. Super tight frame to slide fit and the trigger is oh so sweet! Its makes a Kimber feel like a Rock Island (Which I also have to compare to)

well, technically I can.... neighbor's probably aren't too happy, but they haven't complained yet! I turn 21 in a little over 2 weeks, looking at picking up a handgun for competition. Kinda looking at a S&W or a Springfield 1911. I really like these two Springfield Operator models, I like the blued/wood look.... but that greenish one is kinda growing on me after seeing it.

also thinking about a full size S&W M&P40.... give it a good trigger job and its a real tack driver. Much more "practical" too IMO, lighter to carry and holds double the round count as the 1911.

I have a USP Compact and Springfield Champion for CCW. Would like to add a Ruger LCP for summertime carry. I prefer the .45 ACP as I am sure you are aware of by now.

lol, my preference changes more often than my underwear . I'll probably change my mind every day til my b-day . I'm planning on a S&W M&P .40 compact for carry.... first priority for me is a competition gun. I like how you can put the full size mags in the compact.... so carry a 10 round .40 mag in it, have a couple 15 rounders for backup. I like the .45 too, but the M&P .45 is just a bit too big (even in the compact size) for CCW. For shooting paper and steel, I think the .40's better.... more bangs with less reloads, and still got plenty of power for other uses.

How do you like the 3X9X40 Mark AR scope. I have been looking at the mil dot model for my 6.5 Grendel. I really would like to get a decent scope and everything I've read on the Leupold Mark AR scopes has been pretty good. I'm not opposed to spending more money but the Mark AR seems to match the specifiations I'm looking for my AR 15 6.5 Grendel.

I am quite happy with my Mark AR, it has served me well. My shooting doesn't go past 3-400 yds, even then its usually just on paper. I would look in the ballistics of the 6.5 compared to .223. My Mark AR BDC is calibrated for 55g/.223. My plinking round is 62g M855. The BDC changes if I start shooting heavier bullets like some 69g SMK. Might want to talk to Leupold custom shop. They can build you a Mark AR set up for the 6.5 and the weight bullet you will be shooting.

Got my weapons carry permit yesterday, I'm looking at getting a Rock Island Armory 1911 tactical for my first pistol. Anyone have any experience with those? I've heard mostly good things about them so far...

I have a RIA GI and its a great 1911. A well made 1911 from the Philippines. Even the low end Springfields are made in Brazil. The tactical has a lot of improvements over the GI. I have about 10k rounds through mine with no problems. The one suggestion I would make is get some good magazines (they are not clips!) My RIA came with Novak mags and they don't always feed my reloads or HP properly. Get some Wilson or Chip McCormick Power mags and you will be GTG!

Also learn how to properly strip a 1911, so you don't get the "idiot" mark!
Mine and what she went through in the first month or so! Also a CMC Power mag 10rd

Idiot mark!

Cool, thanks for the tip on the mags, will definitely look into those! And yes, I will definitely spend lots of time stripping and reassembling it once I get it That's quite an impressive pile of brass!
