From a family of law enforcement officers, I was always told never to pull over for an unmarked car!

Just had to chuckle reading your story OP. Glad the ticket was not worse. Set your speed chime. Mine really helps keep me in line & I hardly ever use the cruise now. (more fun without it!) I tell everyone I just don't want to get a ticket for accidentally going too fast. If I choose to go fast, well then my bad, so be it...I deserve the ticket. But not just because & spaced off a minute & was going faster than I realized!

damn, that might fly in LA, but you will get tagged for fleeing if you fail to stop in FL for an unmark. Most of the guys driving them know what they are in, how they are viewed by the community, and will wait until they get to a well lit area...

I don't think unmarks were very common even 10-20 years ago...they are about 1/4th of the personnel now it seems.

to the OP...to walk away for 170, even at 80-55 is extremely lucky. That is pushing 300 in Florida...

+1

I love going out in unmarked cars, but we usually avoid vehicle stops and focus on ped stops. The minivan can be fun!

In California, 25 over is usually a misdemeanor (reckless driving).

Sorry about the ticket, I have been on the same end one time in my car. I will definitely be going to the track this weekend.

Yeah, how about pulling over in a well lit area or open business parking lot or calling 911 to see if the person attempting to stop you is an actual police unit. Not stopping can't lead to anything good. Probably get you a failure to stop on command which is a felony here in my State.
OP, unless the officer is attempting to pace someone you are correct he really shouldn't be going 80. Now if I see you coming up on me at a fast pace probably like he did, I will increase my speed to see if I can match your speed for a pace or get to a point where if you pass me I would give you a ticket for it. I'm guessing thats why he didn't pace behind you for a higher speed. Be careful out there.

You may be chuckling now but wait until the insurance company gets wind of it. The ticket may hurt but the insurance will hurt even more.
Wife got her one and only ticket in 25 plus years of driving a year and a half ago (not in the Camaro) .Ticket was for $88.00 but it took the insurance company a year and a half to find it but they did.
Thought we dodged that bullet but we guessed wrong. lol

sorry sick sense of humor...by the way..sorry about your ticket, i know the feeling..:(
