what suprises me about this is that i thought they taped them all now. Houston's version 20 years ago was a tape she was singing to.

This is BAD "style" and disrespect.
I don't think anyone, at least myself thought it was intentional or disprespectul by any means and yes the Roseanne rendition was disgraceful.
It's just when you get this honor, you just got to get it right. It would also be nice to just sing the song and leave your own rendition out of it. She has apologised and I am over it now.

If that's true then they need to go back to doing it that way.

Edit: or just get a country singer to do it. Most of them do a very good job with it. I've been to a lot of Nascar races and have seen some very good renditions by country singers.

I get upset with the ones who have to drag the song out with 'Style' yes.

If you're gonna flux your voice and octive up and down like a 'look at me' pop singer it had better DAMN well sound fantastic. This is my opinion, you may disagree and that's perfectly fine. But Key wrote that song with a melody and these celebs have been shrilling it for years.

Whittney Houstons was, and still is, the best I've ever heard. I was in Kuwait/Saudi/Iraq at the time but my family taped the game. Buffalo was in it.

Some of these darn people sing the national anthem like they're going into convulsions. They're trying to convey emotion , but they have nooooooooooo idea how to do it.

They don't make singers like they use to.

some are taped; some ain't. just depends on the situation.
and i'll second the motion for *some* country artists. something about this part of the country (upbringing, lifestyle, beliefs, values, etc) tends to lend more respect & pride in our nation & its symbols.
i was actually standing right behind Big & Rich on the field when they sang it at one of my college games & they were amazing!

no... i think it's just that too many singers today have the "fix it in post" mentality. if you go back & listen to multitrack recordings from the 70s/80s - you'll find that most of the good ones are basically recorded like they went to tape/vinyl. they did it right on the performance end & had to have very little done to make it sound better.

Don't get me wrong, Whittney Houston did it too, but like I said, you better do a damn good job of it. Might help to be pre-recorded if you plan on it.

Find the video of the Chicago Blackhawks anthem singer that did the recent Bears/Packers playoff game in Chicago. Best anthem I've seen in a long time.

Female anthem singer wise, my favorite is the Red Wings Karen Newman.

Unfortunately none of these "Singers" actually know the true meaning of this wonderful song. For those Men and Women who faithfully serve our wonderful country this song has a whole nother meaning to it, and to have someone destroy it like she did is not only disgraceful it is disrespectful to all who have gave the ultimate sacrifice and are still giving the ultimate price for our freedom to this day.

I would rather she shut her mouth and stand there and just look pretty than destroy our National Anthem when the WORLD is watching the most viewed show on TV. What a shame.

Well I know of one Josh Gracin, He is a Former Marine.
