High School Senior at the time - unfortunately got to watch every second of it in class. What a tragic event.

Given the logistics and complexity of a shuttle launch and landing, it is a blessing that we have had so few catastrophic failures.

I was a Junior in High School. I was at lunch and a I saw several people rush into the Library (apparently it was on TV) and then I heard someone say the space shuttle just blew up...

well, I wasn't even thought of at that time.... but I do remember the Columbia explosion.... I had just finished up a hockey game, got off the ice and we were all in the locker room, one of the parents came in and told us. We all ran out into the lobby (only TV there) and watched it.

I was 15 when that happened.. I remember it as clear as it happened yesterday. We had a snow day, no school, and I was at the mall with my mother actually watching it on televisions in one of the stores.. it was bad enough seeing it happen live, it was worse seeing it happen live on 20 something tv's at the same time.. Weird thing is my cousin in florida got the challenger commerative license plate, and then gave it to me when he came up one time, it's still on my garage wall. and my hs/college gf had lived in OK for a while, and the teacher was one of her teachers.. Very sad day that was..

School was out and I was at home watching the launch live on TV. We lived 90 miles south of there and I ran outside after the explosion and you could barely see it. I will remember 9th grade forever.
