I don't see how you're going to sell very many Volts with a $40,000 price tag to people looking to save a few dollars on gas. This will work in the niche market for all the rich people who just want to say they are "going green" but will never make it to mainstream America, at least not at that price.

Are they selling for sticker or above?

We are thinking about buying one retail just to have one here at the dealership to offer test drives and pre-orders.

My dealer said no way you can buy one at MSRP right now. They are selling for much higher. At least that is what i was told.

There are some good price breaks along with it as stated above... so it won't be that high I don't think.

the car runs purely on battery till it gets to 20% left, then the motor starts, but only to charge the battery as your driving.....and they are super quiet, you dont even hear them approach you.. to charge the battery from your home will cost about $1 for a full charge, takes about 8-10 hours to charge on 110 volt

The owner bought it directly from Chevrolet in his name and its only for display purposes.... they're trying to get insurance straight on it now so they can allow test drives in it.

As with pretty much everything NEW, the early adopters pay for the design and those who wait for the price drop pay for the manufacturing. The man hours that go into designing, engineering, and validating these vehicles is not small by any means. Once enough have been sold, the price will go down a little.

While pure electric is nicer on the environment, it's not practical with current battery limitations. What do you do when you have to take a detour home that lengthens your trip beyond the charge of your battery? You're screwed. With a plug in hybrid, you have the motor as a backup. Also, you have to consider traveling longer trips, say to visit family or for a vacation. You can easily say and convince yourself that you'll only drive to work and back home again each day but, life happens. At some point you'll want to drive farther than the battery charge will allow. Having the motor gives you the flexibility to do that.
