Same as growing hemp, 4x more paper can be made per acr then wood, grows 4 times faster and is a reneable resource. And the hemp grown for paper doesn't get you high. Its all stems, no buds.

Yet growing trees that take many years is more cost effective.

Another excellent alternative that has been demonized since the 1937 Hemp/Marijuana tax law was passed. If people were to research the history of hemp they would be surprised as to how much of an impact it had in early American history. Until the invention of the cotton gin a good deal of hemp was used in the textile industry, paper was made from it.

Below is a link that is from a pro legalization of marijuana website but their history and time line for the legalization of hemp as an industrial alternative is fairly accurate.

Edit; After posting the following link I later started to wonder if that would be misunderstood by some as some sort of endorsement of marijuana use on my part, it is not. My only intention was and still is to point out the uses of Hemp not marijuana, which are two entirerly different forms of cannabis.

So...."useful life" is defined as 100,000 to 120,000 miles? So when the government assures us that it won't do damage, or cause premature wear, it is on the assumption that catastrophic failure around 100-120K miles is the normal, and that you therefore can't reasonably expect to get any more miles out of a car than that?

In the 21st century, "useful life" should be double what the EPA seems to think it is. Next time you hear that ethanol won't hurt your car, just remember that is using the 1970s as their baseline for durability.

Maybe a poll should be set up to see if I have a point....How many of you out there have a car, or have had a car, with over 120,000 miles on the original engine?
