Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

The track pack option comes in at an astonishingly reasonable $1500.

We drove the 2010 Ford Mustang GT equipped with both the premium and track packs. While the premium pack brings Ford’s awesome SYNC nav/entertainment system and “real aluminum trim” (they’re really excited about that), it’s the track pack that you’ll really want to care about. Know how the new GT gets the old Bullitt’s suspension? Well the track pack brings the suspension and carbon-plate diff from the Shelby GT500. Only available with the optional 19” wheels (along with a massive front strut brace). It also includes upgraded brake pads, a 3.73 differential gear and summer performance tires. The Mustang’s engineers were so excited about the performance possible with the track pack, that they’ve managed to convince Ford to make it available at cost: about $1,495 on top of the GT’s $27,995.

Ive said it before and ill say it again. There is no way in hell the Mustang doesnt add weight. They do not meet the upcoming saftey regulations. No stability control, no curtain air bags, no door reinforcments, and no roof reinforcements. Also goodbye to that glass roof with the last improvment all of them which are goverment mandated. With all that then you add the new 5.0 engine, a six speed which is heavier then a 5 speed, and the other minor upgrades to handle and slow down this new "400"hp how in the hell do you think it is going to come in at the same weight that its currently at. Of couse the 3.5 is going to be lighter its not a v8, that shouldnt be to hard to do. The reality of it is tho Ford is not going to make the v6 that close in hp to the 5.0 v8. All that is said is it can make those numbers not that it will. This is all internet speculation at its finest. So ill put my hat in the ring with all the other speculation going around and say the new Mustang 5.0 will come in at about 3700lbs with 385hp and 365ftlbs of torque. The Ecoboost will be around the same weight as the current Mustang with the 4.6 and have 345hp and 325ftlbs of torque.

Keep this on topic and the personal rebukes to a minimum.

You all know we keep a short leash on the unecessary arguing. It seems like this is back on track so lets please keep it that way.

Thanks!

Which does not say anything about the mythical applications conjured up for the 2011 Mustangs.

I want proof that Ford will somehow make the Mustang faster, lighter, and cheaper than it is now (or than a 1SS).

It seems as if the entire argument is based off speculation.

OH-- and you have to ignore that the Mustang still has a primative Axel set up resulting in a harsh ride and boat like handling.

First of all that 27,995 base price DOES NOT include the $850 destination charge, so its $28,845 + 1500 = $30,345!! This is how I see it:

1SS $30,995
Base Mustang GT + track pack = $30,345
30,995-30345= $650 difference.

So what do we get for only $650 bucks:

1. 111 more Horespower
2. 95ft-lbs more Torque
3. engine oil cooler
4. transmission cooler
5. 6 spd transmissions
6. 4 piston brembos 14"/14.4 front/rear (compared to the mustangs "track pack" 2 piston brakes)
7. IRS!!!! (which works on the track and the streets)

If someone considers the mustang with the optional trackpack a good value, then what the Camaro SS has standard is an absolute steal. Because even with the "track pack" the camaro ss I bet will still be superior on the track and it is only a 650 dollar difference. The camaro is hands down the best bang for the buck.
