But beyond that this small town is not so small anymore. I have considered moving to someplace where people are still friendly and your word and a hand shake are all you need (for the small things). For a living I do institutional architecture, specifically healthcare (Hospital, Medical Office Buildings, Out Patient Surgery centers etc.) So I would need to be fairly close to a larger city that has a good potential to do that type of work, or maybe a change in profession like in the field of IT or web design... Anyway I was just curious as to all of your thoughts on where a good place to move to would be?
Easy, Austin Texas!!! Texas is a Center/conservative State, the recessions didn't really hit texas as hard as other places. Its the home of many tech companys, Dell, Motorolla etc... Heck I think Austin is working on building a childrens hosptial right now, Austin right up your alley.

Edit: A friend of mine is in architecture too lol. I think he designs roads and drains or something not sure.

New Mexico is not a bad place to live, all seasons, high tech, good cost of living, slower pace, diverse population, lots of Camaro's and NO front license plate. I know were known for Los Alamos and Sandia Labs but there is so many more here like the Intel Plant, solar industry, movie studios and lot's more but the most intriguing one to me is Spaceport America. If I was younger and had the right stuff I'd be all over this one. Here's a link:

Only problem I have with NM is the school system. I'm not sure if the OP is looking for a place to raise kids, but isn't NM ranked last in the US for the school system?

Don't move to Texas. They can't seem to elect the right people either. I'd go to Oregon, or possibly North Carolina. I heard North Carolina is like growing especially Charlotte

Michigan was the only state to lose population in the 2010 census. It's being reclaimed by nature.

I've lived in a lot of places, and even though I have zero ties to the place, I fell in love with Austin, Texas. It's the kind of place that you described but better.

They don't do it in other places, as you need a permit to grow.
They could easily sit outside the places and daily take everything they got, but they don't or won't. [its profitable to the state now, soon as the feds find a way to make money.......]
